My 86 year old Mother-in-law is a veteran quilter suffering from Alzheimer's. She has been teaching me what she can remember, but I am having trouble with consistently cutting my pieces the same size for the pinwheel pattern that we are attempting. Tips and techniques?

Are you using a rotary cutter or scissors? That makes a big difference in any advice. Have you tried starching your fabric? By having a slightly stiffer piece to start with, there is less wobble in the cutting.

If you use the rotary cutter, try a smaller square ruler to cut the individual pieces.

I am using a rotary cutter but thee the material "walks" out from under the template. I have so many to cut (pattern calls for 42 blocks everything x4), I thought there might be a way to cut multiple triangles at the same time.

I am sure there is a faster way to cut your triangles from squares if that is what you are referring to....however because of accuracy I still do mine one at a time which will make some of the quilters here scream of boredom and other such things. For me stacking them to cut would require great patience in lining them up perfectly as to not distort the square. I just cut corner to corner and do not have any problems doing it the old tried and true way. It takes time but I am very happy with the outcome and have never had any problems. I am just one of those oddball quilters that enjoy the old ways.

Hopefully those quilters that use all the shortcut techniques will chime in here to help you as I know there are a lot faster ways to do things than I do.

Whatever you choose for yourself just enjoy the process and have a great time.

I like to cut one-at-a-time..... get better accuracy that way. If your ruler is sliding around, try putting 'cling warp' around it. It helps to keep it in place and not scoot as much.
