Input anyone? I'm thinking about trying it. Electric for $69.95. |
I think I will stick with my Harbor Freight blades at that price. Good luck with it if you buy it... If you decide to get it let us know how it works.
|
I'm with Beth, I think I could buy a ton of blades for that kind of $$. I do, however, worry about what becomes of our blades when we are through with them and if there were a way to restore them to near their original condition, I'd love to know about it. If you buy it, please post a review!
|
I have one and rarely use it. I believe for the amount of use it is not worth it. I tried it a few times and while it did sharpen up the blade it was not at new condition. Unless you use a lot of blades it would take a lot of time to make it pay for itself. So calculate the frequecy of changing your blade against the $69.00.

I heard it only gets the nicks out and doesn't really sharpen. Watch your money.

I hear the long one is worth the money from a teacher I took a class with, she said you just swipe your blade across it just like new
|
What does Harbor Freight charge for their blades? Isn't that the store that carries work tools? Do the blades fit Gingher and Olfa?
Thanks :D |
I just bought some Harbor Freight blades, $1.49 for 2. They are in the carpet cutting area.

I have the non electric sharpener. I like it. I use a 60mm rotary cutter so I can't get my blades at Harbor Freight. The sharpener is easy to use and makes my blades last much longer. It does not return them to new if you let them get dull but it will help to keep them sharp if used regularly.
|
the only drawback to this gadget is the noise it makes.
i recommend you wear earplugs. i also use 60mm blades, so i know it will save me money. :-) |
maybe the discards would make good wind chimes??
|
A wind Chime, I don't think I would want one.

Thanks for all your input and it appears the investment might not be worth the cost. I use different size cutters depending on what I'm doing so don't need to change blades frequently unless I nick it. I do flip the blade over and get some extra mileage too.
Plus, I found a Harbor Freight in my area so am going to try their blades. Thanks again!!! |
Just FYI- the long manual blade sharpener works with any size. I use it with my 60mm and my friend uses it with 45mm. The 60mm blades are so expensive and this has helped extend their use.
I have not been able to adapt to a 45mm but just might have to so I can use those Harbor Freight blades. |
Probably not safe but I was reminded of cast-off cd's and all the things that were created with them...same shape and shiny..
These are too sharp even when used to play with. |
