I just read at Pat Sloan's blog about a new ruler with a blade sharpening edge. Sounds great.

no1jan 05-22-2010 04:28 PM

Never heard of it. Will be interesting if it works!

Maride 05-22-2010 04:29 PM

Is one of the new products released during market this weekend. It should be at quilt shops in a few weeks.

You going to get one? You can user test it for us before you go to work...(She who has a job. !!!!!!!! Yeah....!!!!!!!!)

Moonpi 05-22-2010 05:35 PM

Great idea, but wouldn't that ruin the blade if you accidentally rode up on it?

Evelyn 1 05-22-2010 05:37 PM

Worth looking at.

amma 05-22-2010 06:04 PM

I will be watching and listening for more about these :D:D:D

Maride 05-22-2010 06:11 PM

I don't mind to volunteer as a tester. Someone has to sacrifice and it may have to be me. It will have to be after I start to work so I can afford it, but yes, I will step up to the plate for my friends.

Pam 05-22-2010 09:12 PM

OK< well there you go!! Best of luck on the new job. Please let us know how it goes!

fabric-holic 05-23-2010 05:10 AM

I hope it really works.
I'll be first in line if it does!

Melinda in Tulsa 05-23-2010 08:56 AM

I want one!

littlehud 05-23-2010 09:02 AM

Wow, that's a new one to me.

BellaBoo 05-23-2010 09:39 AM

I'm all for anything that will help my rotary blade to last longer. They are getting very expensive. I gave my stack of used blades to DH and asked him to find out if they can be re honed to a sharp edge. He took them to his job and probably gave them to the machinist there. I haven't heard about them in awhile.

Melinda in Tulsa 05-23-2010 09:52 AM

I agree with you on the rotary blades being expensive and they don't last very long either. I wonder if a knife sharpener would help extend the life. I'll have to give that a try.

AnnaK 05-23-2010 09:57 AM

What a great idea. Let us know how this works. I bought the blade sharpener that's basically two circles with light sandpaper on them. Works great. I haven't had to buy blades in a while and I even sharpen my friends' blades too. Lasts a long time.

craftybear 05-23-2010 10:12 AM

where did you find the blade sharpener at?

check out the site.....lpsharp.com...it is a rotary blade exchange...might save a bit of money to use their service

BellaBoo 05-24-2010 04:58 AM

I bought the new long rotary blade sharpener. It works the best of any sharpener I've tried and you don't have to take the blade out of the cutter.

theresse 05-24-2010 09:03 AM

All this sounds interesting. I'll watch this thread. Theresse

Connecting Threads has the Tri-Sharp blade sharpener for 20% off. This is the one I've had for a while. I think it does a great job.

Bellaboo--you may want to check this out:

They've been around forever and I've had good service from them.

Can you tell me where you found it, and the name of it? I've never seen or heard of this one.
Thanks

nana pat 05-25-2010 01:33 AM

I got mine at Hancocks but there are not instructions.
AnnaK, would you be willing to do a tutorial using yours? Or just a post if you'd rather? I turned mine to the right, pressing as hard as I could. I couldn't tell any difference after (unless maybe the blade seemed a bit duller). I researched before I bought. There were those it didn't work for and those who loved it. I would like to be able to benefit from having it. For now, I continue slicing through aliminum foil recycled from kitchen use. It does work for me.

Melinda in Tulsa 05-25-2010 07:50 AM

Does the aliminum foil really help? I've heard of this for sharpening scissors but have never tried it. I used to throw my old blades away, but recently started saving them. (only have 2 so far) With the cost of blades, I'm willing to try anything.

Aluminum foil? Really?
I've used 000 and 0000 sandpaper to sharpen my scissors but never thought to try aluminum foil for them or my rotary cutter. I'll have to try it when I get home. Thanks

dsb38327 05-25-2010 03:06 PM

The foil does work. I keep it on my small rotary mat and slice through it several times. More if I am not satisfied with it yet. The small mat makes it easier to trash the shavings.
I have not been successful using my r/blade sharpener. It did come with directions (I mis-stated it didn't, sorry) but I have not been able to sharpen a blade.

Melinda in Tulsa 05-26-2010 09:30 AM

Thank you for this information! Off to find my foil and put some in my cutting room!

PS - Where is Crump, TN? East?

craftybear 05-30-2010 12:56 PM

let us know if you like it, thanks
