My husand bought a 12x20 building with a loft. It has a ceiling fan, carpet and lots of space. My space! Yay! Can't wait to get everything into it. I just wanted to share with you all. I need advice on how to "furnish" it.

craftybear 08-21-2011 03:28 PM

Wow, is the building going to be close to your house

can you have sew days with other quilters???

be sure to have a big design wall and plenty of electrical,

good lighting

please take pictures of your building now and while you are getting it all set up for your memory book

now you can say you have a quilt studio

peaceandjoy 08-21-2011 03:31 PM

Ohhh, lucky you! I saw some of these at a Mennonite store recently and suggested just that to DH. No luck yet, though. Can't wait to see how yours comes along!

quilter53 08-21-2011 03:36 PM

It is right beside our house so I can walk out the front door and into the building. I plan on putting little steps from the house to the building. It has electrical outlets all around it. Pictures is a good idea.

I can't wait to see it - I've been mulling the same thing over in my head. I have a nice room now, but if I moved out into a separate building my husband could have my room for a workshop and wouldn't have to walk outside in the winter.

Congratulations!

babyfireo4 08-21-2011 03:44 PM

congratz!!! Have fun getting it set up just how you like it :)

hopetoquilt 08-21-2011 05:03 PM

Light color on the walls. Pale yellow or white would be my choice.

Painiacs 08-21-2011 05:15 PM

How lucky u are! Lots lighting. Air-conditioning. Comfy chairs!!

Jingle 08-21-2011 05:47 PM

Sounds great, enjoy.

debbieumphress 08-21-2011 05:55 PM

How fun for you. SOunds like a great place you'll have for your quilting hobby. Pictures sound good. You'll get lots of help here.

intoquilting 08-21-2011 05:58 PM

What a wonderful place for you to sew.

Buzzy Bee 08-21-2011 06:03 PM

Can t wait to see pictures.....!!!!! post before and after !!!

Charming 08-21-2011 06:12 PM

Well let's see....half of it should have carpet to be warm for the winter and the other half (sewing and cutting are) should be wood flooring since it would be easier to clean and you won't lose too many pins in the carpet.....

Make sure on the carpet are you have a nice couch or comfy chair for you to sit and relax with some applique or hand work with a tv in front of you... Also don't forget to have a huge cutting table that is at least 4'x8' (hubby can easily make it with material from the hardware store)....

hmmm...let me think what else...oh don't forget to hang you favorite quilts all over the walls so every direction you turn you will feast your eyes and feel proud :-D

ok i think this is enough for now :-D

SueDor 08-22-2011 02:14 AM

How about a spare bed or 2 for some quilter friends you know.

stitchinwitch 08-22-2011 02:46 AM

We would love to see the inside and the outside!

mjsylvstr 08-22-2011 03:06 AM

susanwilley 08-22-2011 03:11 AM

Pictures, we want to see pictures!!!

lillybeck 08-22-2011 06:07 AM

Wow that is almost as big as my back room so I know you will have lots of space. I have a king size bed and a double bed plus shelves a dining table to sew on and a smaller drop leaf. There is also a few dining chairs in there and a TV cabinet. I think you can put anything you want in your building.

Jennie and Me 08-22-2011 02:00 PM

Color me green with envy! YAY for YOU!!

quilter53 08-22-2011 06:40 PM

I would love to have you. Wouldn't it be fun if we could all get together?

Wow - that is really neat. I bet you'll be very productive in it once it's set up!

Maggie_Sue 08-23-2011 05:05 PM

That is just fabulous!!!!!

doglover 08-23-2011 05:09 PM

How about a sign on the front door, "Keep out family, I am thinking and quilting" or something like that. Have a separate phone line and don't give the number to everyone. Go out there just to get away.
Or maybe this is what I would need. Sounds like I need a little "me" time doesn't it.

You are a very lucky person and take. your time and make it perfect just for you so it will be a place you will enjoy for a very long time. Enjoy Hope to see pictures of the progress.

We are going to put shelves and a table down one side and maybe the back. I've been getting it set in my head how I want it. You can see all my storage boxes full of mostly scraps and other sewing supplies not used very often in the loft. Oh, my I get tired thinking of moving all that "stuff".

wuv2quilt 08-23-2011 05:19 PM

My DH just built me a 20x24 "quilt shack"...I love it. We're working on the shelving and cabinets now. Can't wait to get in there and sort thru my stash. :)

quilter53 08-23-2011 05:22 PM

I am very blessed by God. My dh has worked so hard to get it set up. So much work to get it leveled and underpinned. He's so good.
Yes, I need alone time sometimes. I am going to share with dh. His leather sewing machine is going in there too. He needs his space, too. ;)

quilter53 08-23-2011 05:22 PM

Isn't it exciting?!
