You sound so excited about your new machine! It's always fun to try something new and even better when you love it. Congratulations and happy quilting. :)

I have sewn on a lower end Janome for years. That includes piecing and quilting. It has been a good machine and I have no complaints. I decided to buy a Brother PQ1500S (quilters machine) off of EBay for just under $600 because it had a larger harp, not because I felt I needed a new machine. The PQ1500 does not have any fancy stitches but wow does it sew like a dream. It weighs more than my old machine and sews over seams and intersections without any pause. I never realized I was fighting my old machine but this machine is a dream. I hope this doesn't sound like an advertisement but I am so excited I had to share.

I own this machine too, and you are so right it is a keeper. I love mine too and have had it about a year. I love the pin feed feature and the automatic thread cutting feature. (no going under the quilt to clip threads). I also own a lot of vintage machines including a Singer 201 and 15-91 and a 401, all of them large under the arm, but not quite as large as the Brother. Congratulations you got a great machine at a great price. I love the attachments as well especially the walking foot and 1/4 inch piecing foot, both are spot on 1/4 inch.:)

Congrats to you. I have a Brother Embroidery Machine PE 350 and I love it. I also have other machines but this one is so good it seems. I want to get into the embroidery but am afraid I'll break it. Good Luck. Sue

I have had my Big Brother (1500) for about 5 years or so now. I got it to do piecing and loved it for that purpose. Then DH bought me a frame to use with it. It was so difficult trying to keep it on the frame since I really enjoyed piecing with it. I now have dedicated it to the quilting frame and use my little Brother (pc420prw- I bought for myself for xmas) for piecing....thread cutter, auto threader and lots of fun things!

I love my Brother Laura Ashley 2000 Innovis so much that I purchased a smaller Brother machine that sews and embroideries so I can carry it out and about.

I just got the same machine today! I've been sewing on a Brother CS6000i and had a lot of trouble doing free-motion quilting on it. So I bought the PQ1500S because of the larger throat area. After getting the tension adjusted, I tried free-motion quilting and it was like magic! I had such a hard time before and now I can do it so easily with no ugly loops on the back side! If I didn't have to sleep, I'd sew on that thing all night! I love my new Brother PQ1500S!

Can you tell me what the pin feed is?

fmhall2 01-14-2012 07:53 AM

I recommend Brother machines all the time because my sewing machine mechanic told me they are the best machines being made now.

Congrats on your "new" machine, and here's to many years of happy stitching! :)
Great discussion here too~~

Isn't this what this board is all about? Sharing experiences good and bad? Good for you to have upgraded and are having such a positive time with your new machine! Whoo Hoo!!!!

It's an attachment that goes on the plate and helps the feed dogs move the fabric. It looks like the tip of a large pin. Is good for slippery fabrics, or heavy fabrics like velvet or corduroy. I have one but have not had to use it.

The pin feed is NOT an attachment, it is part of the feed dog apparatus that you can select on your feed dog settings of which there are 4. The pin feed acts much like a walking foot but is much more of a positive feeding mechanism since the pins come up from the bottom and actually engage the fabric to move it backwards. This is the best I can do to explain the feature, but I love the option to use it when needed.:)

Sorry, it must be only MY machine that has the pin feed as a separate part.

I also have a few Brothers- the NX2000 Laura Ashley, the NX400, and the SE270D. I am thrilled with all of them but now mainly use the NX2000Laura Ashley. I do FMQ on the NX2000 but am having some difficulty getting the tension just right on the underside. My dealer said it was because of the differential feed and it needed more tweaking because of that. Does anyone else FMQ on the NX2000 and do you have any difficulty getting the tension right? Love my Brothers!!!

Congratulations!! Glad you love it!

Mom and I each ordered one last week. She gets hers tomorrow and I get mine Wednesday. I can't wait! I tested one of these out and really liked the stitch quality. I have a travel Janome 3160 and the Horizon. I love those both too, but really liked how this one stitches. It was super smooth. Can't wait to get it in my hot little hands.

wow someday ill get brave enough to quilt my own quilts rather than quilt by check. im glad to know theres a good machine out there to help me accomplish this i already own a brother its my main machine to sew on and im very happy with it so the fact that you like yours so much doesnt suprise me. as a matter of fact i felt the same way after i bought my brother after a disastrous experience with a singer. i was beginng to think it was me being such a beginner
that i couldnt operate the singer but other people had problems with it too so it wasnt just me. my dmil had one just like it and it didnt like her either i think it was defective but not sure.
