New Sewing Machine

Yesterday I bought a Brother SC9500 Sewing Machine from Hancock Fabrics. I bought this for a beginner machine for my 20 year old daughter--who really does not have a lot of desire to do quilting --but kind of mentions it sometimes that maybe she would if she had a sewing machine. So we looked at the sewing machines at Hancocks and this is the one we both liked, and I bought it for her for her birthday. I am not familiar with Brother sewing machines as I have had Berninas in the past and now have a Pfaff. Has anyone bought the Brother SC9500 Sewing Machine from Hancock Fabrics? What are your thoughts? I hope I didn't buy something too cheap.

I have 3 basic Brother machines and love them. If you use the search feature you will find numerous conversations about them. Many of us are very satisfied with our basic Brother machines. I hope your daughter enjoys her machine

I don't but I did start quilting again 14 yrs,ago with an entry level Janome and never looked back. I especially liked it as it is light weight, and is portable......I have since ladder up, however many good memories with that machine, yes I still have it.............calla/Sue

I have heard good comments on this as a starter machine. Welcome her to the world of quilting.

I quilt nearly every day for several hours. I purchased a Brother CS6000i 4 years ago and liked it so much that I just purchased another one since amazon was running a very good price on it. I really like Brother machines as well as my older Singers, basically 15-91 and 201, and my older Kenmores. I have these 4 machines set up in my sewing area which was originally the dining room. I use the 15-91 for FMQ, the 201 for attaching the binding because it is just a workhorse for sewing thru 7 layers of fabric, and I piece on the Kenmore and the Brother.

I do not have a Brother, but I have heard many people really swear by them. I've read many positive comments here regarding the Brother machines.

I started out on Brother's cheapest mechanical and have used them ever since; I even convinced my sister to buy their Dreamweaver TOL machine, which she loves. Brother has been building sewing machines since 1909 and making sewing machines for other companies to badge. You bought your daughter a very decent beginner machine.

I truly believe most of today's machines are basically the same, except the price tag for all extras.....I once bought a brother from Walmart....was scared off by comments....returned it and purchased a " high end" from dealer.....almost looked the same as brother and truly wish I had kept brother and not wasted additional$$$$$......may go back and buy that brother and dump " miss fancy pants".
