I love the Janome quality build and perfect tension. Just my opinion. Go test drive several so you get what you want. I do value a larger throat space for maneuverability. Let us know what you choose!

I know the price is important to you, but think of the machine you want and what functions would like, and then the name brand go to the dealer that has that machine name and look at all there machines, and test them to see if it works for you, and also always ask when the next sale is and then return at that time. I personal like viking, but just purchased a Juki for my handbags because of so many layers. The best to you.

I still go to my 1958 Singer 401A. I don't view age as a problem. I do take good care of her, oiling, cleaning, etc. She is one tough machine and I have sewn awnings, car seat covers, as well as formal gowns and wedding gowns. I used to say that if our house caught fire, that machine would be the first THING I would grab.

I have 4 Babylocks, 1 Bernina. My favorite is the Crescendo with the biggest throat, worth the extra money.

I love my Janome MC6600P - the local dealer had them on sale with the table that it sets into for total of $1500.00. They also threw in the extension table. That was a few years ago and when I got to the shop to check it out they did try to persuade me to upgrade and so far I have not needed to upgrade because I bought a Viking Designer Topaz 20 which is my embroidery machine but if I ever need a free arm machine, the Viking has it and the Janome does not.
