I just got a deal on a new Janome Jem Gold 2. I just went into the shop to see what was available and hoping maybe they had a demo model for sale and I hit pay dirt!!! I wanted a smaller machine than the one I have now, because it is too heavy. The Jem gold is 12 pounds and it shorter that the 423S I have now. I am sooo excited because the lady from the shop called me back yesterday and it is only $299..., that is $10.00 more than I paid for this used one 3 years ago. There is a newer model coming out now with more stitches and features, but I don't want any of that because I never use any of them. I pick it up Tuesday.

New sewing machines are always exciting. Am I the only person who actually uses the fancy machine stitches?

I love Janome products too, but will be looking for a machine with a longer arm so that I can put blanket size to quilt. Am I asking too much to find one of these?
If you have a sewing machine with an extended arm which one do you have? Short of a long arm quilter.
I saw a Gracie long arm with a sewing machine, (Janome) for sale, would that be a good deal? I just find that my current machine is difficult to manouver even a single size quilt.

I have a H.Viking with the 10 inch throat and it makes all the difference in the world for pushing thru quilts. So much easier. It did cost over $1000. but they have come down since a new model has come out.

What a beautiful, compact machine. I can see why you're so excited. You're going to enjoy this so much. New machines always bring out the little girl in me! :D

Moonpi, I have a Euro Pro, and have had a few issues with it, but love the fancy stitches. When we did the church quilt last year, I embellished the cneter block (the church) using the fancy stitches--there was even one to look like little ferns! It has other ones like the chicken tracks stitch and several otheres that my Bernina doesn't have. I have it in the mtns and the Bernina at home. Will be soooo glad when they are both under the same roof :!: :lol:

I bought an hold New Home at a flea market in a cabinet with instruction book, spare needle & spare bulb, box of attachments and book for $25.00. It needs the tension adjusted, but how to you go about taking a machine that old in a cabinet to a repair shop? Do you take it out of the cabiinet and if so, how do they work on it, because the bottom is not sealed like the modern machines. It has to sit in a cabinet in order to be used. They (New Home) later became Janome.
I guess this question sounds dumb, but I have always wondered about this. :D

If you flip the machine up the way you do when you are folding it down to put it away, there should be mounting screws underneath that attaches it to the cabinet. Just loosen those screws, take the machine out of the cabinet and you are good to go.

Thanks Judith! I felt like the dumbest of the dumbs, but didn't know if the repairman would have a way to work on this w/out the cabinet. I never said I was the sharpest tack! :lol:
