If we were painters, we would have bottles upon bottles of paint! I collect various amounts of fabric that I love...now that I have learned OBW, I wish I had 4 or 5 yards of some of them!

maryb119 I feel the same way. When I retire and am on a fixed income I will have plenty of fabric to keep me busy. Also fabric is like everything else it keeps getting more expensive.

And here I thought it was a game and the one that dies with the most fabric wins..... am I wrong?

On my crazier days, my fabric collection becomes my padded room.

I took a picture of my friend while she was sewing at my machine. She sews about once every 5 years!!LOL, but what struck me the most was all the material in the background. If I didn't know better I would have thought I was in a store. Since that time I have been trying VERY, VERY hard not to just pick up fabric. I made several lap quilts for Senior's and only used material on hand for most(had to make some purchases for backing). Still I have as much, but working on using it up.

I wouldn't feel so silly about "collecting" so many remnants except that I can't seem to bring myself to cut into them. Not even for a 6x6 square! sure is fun to organize it, though. My sewing room is the ONLY organized spot in my house.

We are in your shoes (empty nest), but here's what we did. We bought a low maintenance barrier-free bigger house, with a studio for me. We are really happy with our "growing older" house. When my DH sees a fabric bag come in, he usually says "I didn't know we needed more fabric!" I say the same thing about more tools! :lol:

Your fabric "barns are just bursting with great quilts that only need to be made, and given with love" that is not hoarding, it is best adaptive use of present supplies and equipment!

I understand! So I joined the Boomerang Swap. Now, I audition my stash against the featured fabric. Once decided, I wash, dry, press, cut, make Boomerang block. Repeat. It's called frenzy of the deadline. Try it - it really is enlightening.
