A number of my daughter's friends are traveling to Asia and Africa.
I'm asking them to bring me fabric for my charity quilting. She can post a message on her facebook page maybe. I would list a few qualities, cotton, colorfast, etc. Anyone with experience with fabric discoveries overseas? One group has started a school in Kibera, Kenya- amazing kids. I wonder what kind of cloth they make there!

Hi Dot,

What I have found usually is that prices are much higher everywhere else. My friend went to Korea once and got only one yard and she said that it almost broke her bank. Another friend from India said that the beautiful fabrics we see here that are from India are made for export and what you find there is not as rich and pretty. I guess we are very lucky to have so much and so cheap.

Yesterday I was waiting for my son outside of the school. There is one family in my neighborhood from Africa. The mother was also waiting and had a dress long dress with a skirt and a wrap around her hair. The fabric was so colorful and amazingly beautiful. I kept looking at her and imagined the quilt I could make with that.

Why does this not surprise me? I'll see what happens.

I just got back from a cruise to the Eastern Caribbean islands and couldn't justify spending $15 or more for a yard of fabric. I'd love to have fabric from all over the world, but want to support the economy here in the USA!
