Storage under the work island - thread storage - looks great

Latrinka 06-13-2013 05:16 AM

Wow, looks great! I would also want a section of the closet to have a rod, I tend to hang a lot of things, tops, strips, etc.

I have a casita which I use as my quilting studio, and there is a large walk-in closet. Instead of going all the way to the top with shelving, I had my husband put a pole like a closet rod high up. The pole is attached with typical U-shaped holders so it can be moved. I have a huge roll of batting on this rod. Next to it I mounted a sticky- backed tape measure so I can measure (approximately) how much batting I am am pulling down to cut off. This has worked well for me. Good luck!

onlyone problem...where is the space for my bed? I'm ready to move in.

Don't forget great lighting inside that closet space.

Maybe that storage wall could have bifold push back doors (like in churches to separate into rooms). So that you could have the natural lighting to discern fabric colors when it's open to the room.

Looks wonderful - I'm envious - but happy for you!!

I tried sewing against a wall mounted space and found I needed the extra space that my movable sewing cabinet with extended back table provide. Also have it positioned in front of a window for better light.

Good idea LARINKA, I prevously forgot to add that in my plans when I used every bit of space in my closet for fabric. But I have done some revisions & now use those pant hangars used to hang multiple pairs of slacks, (nice space savers too ), to hang my cut fabric or fabric choices for an upcoming project & it's up & out of the way. It also keeps those pressed fabrics nice & neat & elimiates having to re-iron them. It's also a good way to preview your fabric selection at a distance & eliminate/change fabric selection if need be. What I really like about it is, if I don't finish what I was doing with my strips or fabric choices, they are already up & out of the way & elimiates having to re-iron or rearrange color sequence, or if I have to go to another project I don't have to stash anythng becuz it's already out of the way & still ready for me when I'm get ready to go on.

Wow! Your studio is going to be beautiful. So much room! I'm so jealous of your huge closet space! Congratulations! You are going to have a wonderful studio.

Lucky you!!

I would be in heaven with a room like that!! I can only dream of a sewing room and I don't think I'll have one unless I sell this house for a larger one with an extra bedroom. That's not going to happen so I'll just keep with tearing up the dining room on the weekends.
