I have made a lot of shirts for my husband and son and I want to make a quilt using the scraps from these shirts.
My personal goal will be at least two charity quilts per month (one for Project Linus and one for the battered women's center in my county); a t-shirt quilt for an acquaintance's daughter; a quilt top for the New Mexico Boy Scout Camp dormitory; and more 15-inch pocket quilts for the Binky Brigade. These small, cuddly blankets are carried by the US soldiers during their street patrols and given to children of war-torn areas. Of course there will be Guild projects and other family quilts and wall hangings during the year.
My resolution for 2011 is to start sewing for Christmas in January. I always come up short in getting done what I thought I could.

The only thing I'd love to do in 2011 is to start and finish a Dear Jane quilt. I've wanted to one for so long and now is the time!!!
These are the ones I already have the fabric:
-finish "Isabella" quilt (Benartex pattern) -"Flowers of the Sun" quilt (South Seas Imports pattern) -"Vintage Stitches" 12 block sampler by Thimbleberries -OBW x 2 -Civil War quilt for DH (he's been asking for months!) Fabric yet to purchase, but have the patterns: -4 Judy Neimeyer paper pieced quilts And if Santa brings me an Accuquilt Go, to start cutting 1 1/2" strips for a scrappy Log Cabin. WHEW! |
I MUST finish my son's queen size quilt before anything else. He has asked for about 3 yrs. Now he's getting married in May. It is started, the top of bed part is finished, but the sides/borders haven't been put on yet. I'm debating about having it quilted by Long Armer. So far I've done all my own quilting, including an extra large queen for my daughter. Son's is made with batiks and I've never used them before. I've heard batik is harder to quilt.
I hope to do a Storm at Sea in shades of blue and white for my son, and a log cabin in bright rainbow colors, one each for my niece and nephew.
I want to do a drunkards path made of batiks

Aborning, and others getting LA this holiday - Forget the quit tops for starters. Get some of the end of season fabric that you like on super sale prices, a dark and a light. Rack it onto the frame with the batting and sew away. Make the E's M's loop-de-loops, figure 8"s and cross hatching. Pounce designs on with your old quilt stencils and sew those. Trace the stencils you have onto computer paper and use that as a pantograph. Play with different thread weights and metallic threads. When you finish all that play quilting, cut the practice piece into place mats and table runners and bind. You'll get something usable, and you will not have fretted about fouling a quilt top. Use chalk to draw "quilt blocks and stars" to practice stitching in the ditch. You'll feel less inhibited with plain cloth, and get better and more courageous faster.

I'd like to do my One Block Wonder. I have the fabric and just want a wall hanging, so not too big. Guess I'll go for that one! It's supposed to go with the king size quilt I'm hand quilting, so need to get that done . . . Of course, I have other UFOs that I'd like to complete as well. And the list goes on . . .

I have 2 quilt projects for 2011.
1. A Civil War quilt using the book Facts & Fabrications: Unraveling the Story of Quilts and Slavery by Barbara Brackman. My plan is to do a block a month and then blog about the block, its meaning and why I chose it. My goal is to only get the 12 blocks finished and together. I've been collecting fabrics for some time, hopefully I have enough if not I'll have to do some shopping ;) 2. Finish a quilt that I've had problems with. I started it a good 4 year or so ago. The pattern is called Cheese & Crackers. |
a double wedding ring...I already have the fabrics--all valentine prints
To finish quilting all the tops that were supposed to be Christmas gifts! And to take the time to figure out how to put an avitar and some pictures on here!
If I start now, maybe I'll get them done! McKenna Ryan's KaBloom Out & About and the beach one, Toni Whitney's cougar and owls, my fox and Rhodesian Ridgeback, my Epic Bears and my story quilt. I feel pretty sure that I can get them made and off to the quilter. I do not machine quilt and no longer have time to hand quilt. Love it!
gonna do some scratchies and use up some stash
1. Finish the Dresden plate I've started even if it becomes only a lap quilt;
2. Finish the Texas quilt I'm working on, complete with redwork, appliqued and pieced blocks; 3. Reduce my fabric inventory; 4. And when I'm not doing anything else, practice playing the guitar so that all the lessons I'm paying for won't be wasted. May your Christmas be blessed and your new year productive and happy. Peace and grace, froggyintexas |
there are two i hope to be able to try, one is the twister, and the other is that one you use the 9 or 10 degree ruler on. maybe after the first of the year things will get better and i can afford them. got my fingers crossed
I want to do a in-hoop quilt in 2011 for the birth of my second grandchild.
I resolve to finish Lorraine's Garden (finally marked and ready to quilt.) And I resolve to make a Bargello quilt
I plan on attempting a one fabric one block wonder using the kaleidoscope pattern
I plan to do a big wholecloth with intricate Welsh patterns - and one in North Country style as well....
I need to work on finishing a few that are in the works, but will start a rainbow bargello for my daughter that we saw a few years ago in a quilting magazine. Hopefully will give it to her as a wedding gift. She has been dating a guy for 5 months now, so we will see what Christmas brings!
1. Sylvia's Bridal Quilt from Elm Creek Quilt books
2. Judy Neimeyer Wedding Star for DS getting married in Sept. 3. Scrappy quilt for FIL 4. another 4-patch posie from fabric I bought without knowing what I would do with it. 5. Celtic Knot for DS (made one for younger son, now older one wants one.) 6. Finish ones started this year. 7. Baby quilts for church and lap quilts for Children's Services. No time for anything else. No cooking. No cleaning. No laundry. Oh well!:) |
I would like to start on a Dear Jane quilt. My idea is to use scraps from many of the quilts I have made in the past 10+ years. A different block for each quilt or wall hanging. This will be a on-going project I'm sure.
Determined to learn hand-applique (without paper) and curved piecing.
Geez...I really hate to say what I would like to tackle in 2011, because I am terrible at resolutions- - lol
I do have material for 3 quilts for the gk's. Hello Kitty material for my gd and Cars (because I couldn't get Thomas around here) for the 2 gs's. Other than that, whatever strikes my fancy when I need something to do from the long list I have "bookmarked" on this site. |
I really want to finish a few of the UFOs I have started. Along with that 'resolution' I would like to start some block from the Farmer's Wife book.
My goal is to spend less than half as much on fabric as I did this year!
I have 4 quilts planned for the first half of 2011. Three will be for grandchildren BDs and one for my son. My kids and grandkids have all asked for quilts and really love and appreciate them. One will be blues and browns and beige for my GD that will be 12 on Feb 19, another will be blue, green and yellow for my GS who will be 11 on Mar 21, and another will be pink, black and white for my GD who will be 20 on April 28. My son's will be made from men's shirts.
Can't wait to get started but first I have to finish the quilt for my DIL that I'm giving her for Christmas. I just have to finish quilting the border and then put the binding on so it will be finished by the end of the day today. |
