What new projects is everyone going to be working on starting the New Year? My first project is machine quilting a Double Irish Chain queen size quilt, that I had pieced and had to set aside to finish after the holidays. Also I will be working on a smaller Redwork quilt . Like to hear about everyone elses new projects..

Love your name LOL I have a BOM to quilt (by hand) I'll give it to my oldest daughter, Ive started pieceing a "Chicken Quilt" for hubby with pics of his chicken featured on most of the blocks and am going to do something with wild animal prints for my other daughter.All between working 60-75 hrs a week.Who needs sleep?!

I will be working on a quilt for each of my kids....that is 1 son 1 daughter-in-law, 1 daughter 1 son-in-law and.....3 neices. I'm not including the three grandbabies this year. I hope I can do all this and work too. :?

My first project is to finish one from last year! I have a quilt for my dd that is about half-quilted. So I will get back on it this weekend (after the last of our company is gone).

As for new projects... I am making a t-shirt quilt. I have never made one. My SIL's dd is getting married in May and she brought me 100 t-shirts from the bride and groom's time in college. I am going to make some of them into a t-shirt quilt for the mom-of-the-bride to give them.

My nephew will be 18 next fall and graduate high school May 2008.. so there will be a quilt for him at some point in the next 18 months.

I have made quilts for family and friends.. we have 1 couple I still want to make a quilt for.. so that will be done this year.

AND finally.. the biggest project.. and most special.. DH and I will celebrate our 25th anniversary this summer and one of the things we are doing (other than a trip in the fall we hope) is to redo our room (hasn't been done in 15 years!) .. and that means new curtains, dust ruffle, shams and a king size quilt for the bed! We haven't decided on a pattern yet... we have a couple of color scheme ideas... this will be a joint project since my DH quilts also.

I am sure other projects will come up. I want to do at least 1 project Linus quilt and one for Quilts of Valor.

I have started a bright quilt using only Mary Englebright fabrics. It's been on my *agenda* for about 4 years now. I'm enjoying working on it and finally cutting into that fabric I've been collecting!

My sisters and I have a *challenge* going on. Who will finish their redwork quilt first?!?!? I made 12 redwork blocks over a year ago but they are not in a quilt yet. One sister has also finished her 12 blocks but has misplaced them so no quilt there either! The third sister is still embroidering her blocks. As soon as I finish the ME quilt I'll move along to the redwork. I have to wash all the red fabrics again since I can't remember which I've washed and which are new. Rats! I need a better system!

Last year I finished making quilts for each of our kids so this year is quilts for me. (The girls will claim them all come their next visit!)

I haven't taken a picture of it yet. But I certainly will. That would probably be easier. We have one more family dinner tomorrow, so maybe after that I can get it posted. This week I was on vacation but kept the grandbabies. Back to work on Tues. but planning on still doing lots of quilting!

I want to finish a number of quilt tops. It is fun to go back and see that I really have improved over time. Also, I want to make some of them larger tan originally intended. I find that I get sick of a project relatively soon and want to move on. By going back, I am more likely to make the original larger. My goal is to make a full sized quilt in 2007.

Please start a new thread and tell us more about the "quilting husband". Has he always sewed? How did you get him interested or did he interest you? Does he machine piece or piece by hand? Do each of you have youra own machines? Does he have his own stash of fabrics?
I would love it if my husband were more interested that just praising my work.
What about the rest of the husbands, are there more of them out there? Are there any men members to this forum? Let us hear from you. Suzanne

I'm sort of glad that DH is not interested beyond moral support. Can you imagine trying to negotiate who gets to use what in the stash? Or have him tell you how a quilt should be designed? Or "helpfully" explaining to you how to do something properly? Plus, he'd get all the attention all the time simply by virtue of being a male quilter. It is one thing to ask your quilting buddies for input. How many spouses can offer the same without crossing boundaries?

This year I am absolutely, positively going to FINISH the Hawaiian quilt I set aside last July when I got the last stitch of applique done on it. It's not a quilt until it's quilted, right? So far, I managed to get the top, batting and backing basted together (3 hours) and the center part outline quilted (4 hours). Another 2000 hours, this puppy should be done!!!! :lol:

I'm starting the new year with 4 baby quilts, 2 for new grandchildern and 2 of new great nieces or nephew Moms don't know what they're having yet but will soon.
1 due March 2 in April last in May.
My husband doesn't quilt but keeps coming up with ideas of what I should do. Don't know how many hours he thinks is in a day to do all he thinks I should do. I did get him to cut stips once. He was quiet for 2 days. He is supported of my quilting, and gave up a little of his space for me till I can get that back room cleaned out.

lol, I'm just in shock this year is over, I really don't know where the last 3 months went to.
But if I keep track of time in 2007 I have a memory quilt for my In-laws wedding anniversary to make by July. I'm just thankful my sil is naive enough to promise to take care of all the pictures so I just have to make the whole thing.
And I would just love to make my husband an Irish chain quilt, I'd never made one, but was actually looking at that pattern a couple nights ago thinking that it would be great for him next Christmas. His family is big into the whole Irish thing...so I really think he'd like it.
Someday, I'd just love to finish the quilt I started for our bed a year or so ago, it just a four patch alternating with a crazy patch. But everytime I think I'll pull it out something else comes up. Oh well, I just won't be surprized if that's on my list to do in 2008.

I would love to make a memory quilt. I think they are absolutely beautiful , and they make wonderful gifts. You will have to keep us posted on how yours is going.

I have recently been asked by the local American Cancer Society Group to make a quilt for their 2007 Christmas Cotillion silent auction. I am soooo excited. 1) for the opportunity to help in such a worthwhile cause (who amoung us hasn't had a family member oa friend affected by cancer) and 2) to work with such a wonderful group of people. They will combine my lap size quilt with a hand made cedar chest and several delicately embroidered linens. But what to quilt??? I want it to be very special. Any ideas??? Would appreciate your input.

Gotta agree...stay outta my room and outta my stuff! Like others, my honey is VERY supportive and has helped cut out many a block for me but I think that's as far as I want him to go. He's a perfectionist on all things he does so I'm pretty sure he'd have trouble quilting if a point wasn't pointy!

This year (as of yesterday's brain storm) I would like to make Picture memory wall hangings for our kids. We just came home from our annual Beach Christmas trip and after seeing all the pictures of our wonderful family that's what I decided i would like to do. Will attache a picture of the "Beach Bowl" football game we played New Years Eve Day.

I read somewhere that if you clip the ends of the selvages at an angle, it keeps the selvages from raveling so bad. It works, but it also tells you at a glance whether the fabric has been washed or not. Another tip on washing fabrics (gleaned from some quilting magazine) is to accordian fold the fabric then Pin the selvage edged together with large safety pins. When fabric comes from washer, give it a shake, holding onto the edge with the pins, then when it comes out of the dryer, give it another shake to straighten it out. It is amazing how smooth the fabric comes out. I've used this with long yardages--no more tangled messes.

I'm trying washing with the selveges pinned. I just untangled 10 yards of fabric! :roll:

I have a rotary cutter that has a pinking blade. I pink all my fabric before washing. It works great... stops any ravelling.. and when I look in my stash and see those pinked edges, I know it has been washed! Barb C.

Barb that's a great idea. I've always zigzaged my fabric on the ends to keep it from fraying but the scissors are much easier. I'll try that next time! :D

I zigzag the two cut ends of my fabric together before washing. It stops raveling and also cuts way down on fabric twisting during the wash cycle. When you're ready to use the fabric, just cut the seam off.
