Hi everyone! Can you tell me your opinions on spray basting vs. pinning? I've pinned my 2 baby quilts, and I'm starting on a lap quilt and I don't look forward to pinning. Do you still need pins with spray basting?

Thanks in advance!
Karen

I only spray baste small projects. I don't trust it on bigger projects. I have been known to spray baste and pin the borders of big quilts. Give it a try and see how you like the result. Good luck, please post picture(s) when you get finished.

I have spray basted up to about a large twin sized quilt with no problems. I just fold the backing around to the front and pin around the edge. I use 505 and it works for me.

I only use spray basting for small quilts because you have to be careful not to breath it and the problems with any overspray. But if you have had no problems, I would encourage you with what you feel comfortable with. GOOD LUCK !! :)

I have much better results with spray baste. You don't really need pins, but I tend to pin the edges. The reason I do is that I don't have a dedicated sewing area and I have to pack up and vacate the dinner table when I'm working. It takes me a while to finish one, so it's just a little extra holding power to have the pins help hold it while I fold, unfold, move etc.

When you spray, don't over do it. I spray in a grid pattern about 6" apart. The last one I did, I got distracted by family and sprayed too much. It gummed up the needle and the thread kept breaking.

I am a huge spray basting fan. However I only use the 505 spray. I have tried several of the others but much, much prefer this one.

I have spray basted several queen size quilts and they have done great!! No more pinning for me!!!

Spray the batting, not the fabric.

I love spray basting, but it can be messy. Be sure to cover your area or spray someplace it's easy to clean. I also love the 505 spray. It's sticky, but not TOO sticky (but a little pricey). I still put in a few pins, also...just to be safe!

Spray basting is great. I baste the edges together (just to
make me feel better). As ChaiQuilter mentioned, spray the
batting. I do it in sections.

I've never used the spray. I think it's too expensive.
