Newbie Quilter and Have a Question
Hello all. When using a fabric with a pattern (let's say animals) does it matter if the animals are sideways in a block...or just facing different detections?
Im new to quilting and not sure if it's a matter of preference or if the animals should be facing the "correct" way when looking at the quilt. Thank you and what a great message board! It's been very helpful. |
It's whatever you want. There are no rules. If you do them different directions some will always be in the right direction!
|
I like my pictures all going up and down from top to bottom. But sometimes, because of the pattern, I accept that they may have to be random.
Personal preference rules! |
Oh thanks! I was thinking about ripping blocks apart to rearrange so that all are in the up/down direction. Whew!
|
If the animals and the pieces are tiny, I go with random. If the animal is large like a focus square in Warm Wishes, I like them all to be going the same direction.
|
I've done them both randomly and all going in up/down direction. I like them up/down, facing in toward the center and not facing off the quilt, but this comes from my journalism background. You are not supposed to have the subject of a photo looking off the page.

I like bed quilts to be able to be used with either end at the top of the bed, so I deliberately mix up the directions of images. I do the same with table runners because I don't want them to be seen entirely upside down for people on one side of the table.

Welcome to this board. I would prefer random. Your quilt your rules.
|
Welcome to the QB...I often do random for kids quilts as they get used in all directions. I guess it depends on the scale of print and how the quilt will be used.
|
I like random and it is my quilt! No quilt police here! Welcome to this board. It is a great place to find so much great information.
