Are these blocks that are sent in? are they blocks we make for our own eventual quilt? I couldnt find a "rules" of the game part of the BOM. It sounds like fun having everyone make a different quilt with the same patterns... I would like to try it but wanted to know the how its done stuff. If you can help I would greatly appreciate it. THANKS from the new kid on the block (of the month).

I am curious as well. I just get the patterns and make them for myself, so far.

You make them for yourself. Right now I am making them in modern colors as a sampler for my DD. The exchanges are where you send in your blocks and get others back. It's fun to see how different everyone's blocks look in different fabric. One gal is making a quilt from each BOM set.

have you posted yours yet? I am thinking of starting up in January if I can just figure out what we are doing... for us or to send in?? I have not a single friend who sews so this is as close to "group" sewing as I can get. I like it!

same here. I have posted some pictures under the differetn "pioneer BOM" I started up really late and have not been doing them in order even since starting. For my DD, I am doing them in pink, chocolate brown, and green. They are actually turning out really cute. She's only 4 so I think the colors will grow with her. I didn't want to do a bed quilt that she would outgrow in a year, especially with how SLOW I am at making quilts!

Someone will correct me if I am wrong but BOM is just a new block pattern every month for you to try something new for your own personal quilt. It is not an exchange.
However there are several different exchanges that you can get in on and some of them start in January such as Doll Quilts, the quilting bee block which is when you pick a theme/color combo and then you get a new partner every month to exchange blocks--you do one in their theme and they do one for you..it is fun! There is also a 12 block exchange in January in the colors of raspberry and chocolate...you make 12 blocks in those colors and then send them in..then you will get your block back plus 11 different others so when you get them back you have enough for a sampler quilt.

SO you will just have to navigate through all of the forums and see what suits you best! Have a great time!

BTW- There is a new swap starting up that the blocks are due in January. The swaps work in that you make 12 of the same block and send them all to one person. That person sorts out all the different sets and sends you back 12 different blocks, including one of the ones you made. It's a fun way to get a big variety and there are so many different styles around here! The one that was just posted is the Chocolate and Raspberry swap. Check it out!

For detailed information about the BOM, and to find the lists of blocks picked so far, check out the topics at the top of this page (in the blue section).

I'm accepting volunteers now to pick blocks on the 1st of each month in 2010. January is taken, but the rest of the year is still wide open. The theme will be Pieced Flowers. Blocks can be pathwork pieced or paper pieced. They should be named for flowers and - hopefully - look at least a little like a flower of some kind.

send me a pm if you'd like to get on the list to pick a block for us.

you don't have to sign up to make the blocks. Again, all the details are here: http://www.quiltingboard.com/forums/show/9.page
