Nifty Fifty Blue 2000

3 Attachment(s)
Hey Howdie Hey Peeps,

Resident Newbie here, look what I did this weekend. Really thought it would take less time but at 98x111ish I don't know why I ever thought that. Back in the day I could sew up 30 tops from completed blocks in a week. Yes I did that once upon a time, but it was 20 years ago.

So this is my Nifty Fifty from a swap that I completed way back in 1999. The hostess had 2 Peeps flake and so there were 2 bad blocks. Then there were a few who didn't use the correct fabric, they went onto the back so I could keep them altogether. Some people didn't ID their state so we can't find them all but hey, it's really beautiful.

Finally got to use my Millennium fabric, it was for my y2k but I lost that somehow in the last 3 moves, really sad but it happened. Cest La Vie, moving on! I am moving on,,, I think I'm telling myself more then you.

It's all packed up waiting for my long arm quilter to get back to me that she's available.

Did any of you make it into this swap? Anyone recognize their blocks? I'd love to do another of these, this was a great swap. I did two, the other is purple and I think from a later date.

Sorry about how small the photos are, I had to resize them down in order for the board to accept it. This is my first time posting photos so I only hope ya'll can see them.(--- Wow They are big and I don't know how I attached one, or how to get rid of it. Haha! learned something new-it's gone)

Enough for today, I have two more things I want to share but I need photos as we're all very visual aren't we?

I have so much to learn. I deleted the wrong attachment but the quilt top is still here. I'm learning, hang tight.

Mousie 07-29-2019 08:44 AM

Maggie_Sue 07-29-2019 10:00 AM

Beautiful quilt!!! So glad you joined us!!!

juliasb 07-29-2019 10:00 AM

I love swap quilts. I am in one here right now and can't wait to see what everyone does with the turn around. These quilts remind me of a swap I was in before Y2K. Unfortunately I wasn't in this swap so can't help you with names. Looking forward to seeing you post more.

Jordan 07-29-2019 10:13 AM

Very pretty quilt and love the history story. I think we can all relate to your issues of people not completing their commitment and using fabrics they already had. Anyway-nice finish on your quilt.

Tartan 07-29-2019 10:39 AM

Great samplers!

osewme 07-29-2019 01:43 PM

Welcome from Texas. Your quilt turned out beautiful. Can't wait to see other things you have/are making. You will like it here.

Beautiful quilt.

nativetexan 07-29-2019 05:47 PM

I've did a ton of swaps starting in 1999, here and all around the world. i know i've done many 50 States siggy swaps. not the one you mentioned though. Great quilt. sad you lost it.

WendyMcD 07-29-2019 07:05 PM

Thanks for the warm welcome folks, glad to be on board.

WendyMcD 07-29-2019 07:06 PM

Hi Juliasb, I can't wait until I'm "old" enough (LOL I'm 56) to do the swaps on here. This board seems very homey and safe.

zozee 07-29-2019 07:55 PM

It’s beautiful, Wendy!!

lorimax5859 07-30-2019 06:18 AM

Iceblossom 07-30-2019 06:47 AM

Peeps is people, homie :)

SillySusan 07-30-2019 06:52 AM

What fun! I spent a while looking over this beauty, trying to find clues to the states. I think I found Wyoming, Texas, Missouri, Maryland and Utah so far! Great quilt!

nanna-up-north 07-30-2019 09:50 AM

I'm not one that took part in your swap but it sure did turn out to be a great quilt. I love it when I can get one finished that I started such a long time ago. I'm sure you do as well. And, congrats on figuring out the pictures thing. that can be tricky.

WendyMcD 07-31-2019 08:33 AM

Thanks so much for the warm welcome. I have so much to share but have to away to work. Get this, my Y2K turned up! I can't believe it, I've been crying off and on for the last 24 hours. We were cleaning out the linen closet as I needed my Dear Jane quilt and viola! There it was hiding in the back of the bottom of the closet! Buried under a ton of stuff we don't need!

Iceblossom 07-31-2019 09:00 AM

Yay Wendy, I'm so happy you found it. I know it's been on your mind and heavy on your heart. And I'm glad that it didn't literally fall on your head :)

I've been searching my stash for a particular piece of fabric, haven't found it but I did find a lost project bag that had fallen behind the shelves.

BTW, I found some of the sparkly night sky cityscape fabric from Y2K if you need just a bit more of that sort of thing.

WendyMcD 07-31-2019 09:16 AM

I was so sad about loosing it and had finally just given up on it. I was just searching for a back right now and was lamenting the fact that I'd just used up the fabric for my y2k. Can you believe I dreamt of it! I'd love to have more of any of the 2000 fabric, what would you like in return? PM me your snail mail addy and request. Now I really have to get to work before it piles up on me. :-) Have a great day.

And too... where is your favorite place to shop on line for fabric?

Iceblossom 07-31-2019 09:23 AM

Nothing in return! We shall continue this in private messages.

I usually start at equilter.com, I've always had great service from them and find their prices good/competitive with quilt stores in my area even including postage, I like that they have a donation program and you can pick your charity (or not, up to you). Like the other on-line sites I've ordered from when you order a yard you get exactly 36", no extra thumbwidth. But it's always been very fast and the one time there was a delay I got an email message alerting me to the expected ship date which was only 2 days later than it should have been. I've gotten a couple of their scrap packs and for my purposes they were wonderful!
https://www.equilter.com/category/38...se-scrap-packs

Then I go to Amazon to search for my stranger requests. Different vendors but a couple of times Fields in Michigan had exactly what I was looking for.

WendyMcD 07-31-2019 10:07 AM

Oooooh EQuilter scrap packs,,, three of them in my cart already.

tuckyquilter 07-31-2019 04:29 PM

You done did good. Terrific looking quilt.

WendyMcD 08-05-2019 08:10 AM

Thanks so much. Loads has happened since I did this and I need to make an update to my status, just need like 3 more days in a 24 hour period.

WendyMcD 08-20-2019 07:51 AM

Y2K found!

3 Attachment(s)
I'm thrilled to report in that my Y2K quilt was found,,, in the least likely place, the linen closet, on the floor with a touch of water damage from the humidifer. But it's been found. I have a short video and even though it's like a day later, I'm crying again. What a nut! I can't believe it but yeah, I blubbered like a baby. DD and I were going through the closet for the first time in 13 years and tossing stuff that we didn't like/weren't going to use. We tossed all the afghans made from acrylic, quite a heap, kept all the wool ones and encased them in plastic. So down at the bottom is the humidifier and I told her oh just leave it cause I was getting sicker and just wanted to sit (SLE). But she continued and underneath was my baby.

Here it is all laid out for you to see. It's about twin sized here but...

As you can see, I have a lot more work to get done. Can you believe! 20 years in this box, moved from home to home as we wandered up north. I'm shocked that it's here, let alone in relatively good shape. I made a green block, found it a plastic box and have rolled the blocks up to rearrange and make another block to slip between all of these.

WendyMcD 08-20-2019 07:54 AM

Sorry can't figure out how to delete the attached??? photos? No idea how I did it.

BTW, the siggies, irreplaceable! Before I didn't know what do do with them, now I do... they will be going into the border in a special place of interest. And let me add... good thing the papers made it through the years or I'd be in Trouble. Yes, capital T.

See all the triangles off the photo on the left? The box was full of the strings of sewn triangles so it was easy to make up the green block. Not sure what I was thinking with this quilt as there are 2 different blocks,,, I have only made one type. Perhaps this set was to be the 2nd type of block? I will have to see if there is any way to salvage some of my brain to figure that out.

And.... I have only some of the 2000 fabric left cause just before I found the Y2K I worked up my NF2000 and used it for the sashing. Ugh and LOL cause yeah,,, just my luck.

barny 08-20-2019 08:08 AM

Well, good for you both. You found your quilt. That's wonderful.

WendyMcD 08-20-2019 08:15 AM

Thanks I'm over the moon. Not sure where my first post went off to, Lalaland is where I reside... but it was to kick against the goads as I thought it was lost forever. I'm still so thankful when I think of it. Sqwee!

bearisgray 08-20-2019 08:19 AM

The lost (misplaced) has been located! :D

ibex94 08-20-2019 10:26 AM

So do you have any fabrics in your Y2K quilt that actually are Y2K patterns. I see a wonderful variety of fabrics but unless the print has a Y2K theme, I don't know that I would recognize it as a Y2K fabric. Love your quilt and I'm glad you tracked it down! and what is the http for the pattern? This might be one I need to work on :-) hmm pinwheel in center surrounded by 4 blocks.... I can figure it out. 2000 different fabrics. a scrappy joy!

zozee 08-20-2019 10:38 AM

Wonderful!! So happy for you!! After all the hard work of purging unwanted blankets and getting your linen closet cleaned out, you were doubly rewarded!

NZquilter 08-20-2019 12:05 PM

Good for you!!

When you resize your photos, reduce the resolution, not the size. That way they are big enough to see, but the server sees them as small (Most monitors can't display more than 72 dpi anyway.). I reduce mine to 96 dpi and it works fine on all websites.

Not so much, no the fabric isn't Y2K what made it,... what makes it special and completely unique was that I swapped for All the scraps. We sent 25 charms and a siggie block all over the world. I sent out 100 and the return is what you see in the shoe box and in the quilt. I'm hosting one now because I thought my quilt was lost.

The site is no longer there, good thing I printed out the pattern, it was a mystery. There's another block not shown here though which has a pinwheel and a star which connects throughout the quilt. It's a shame the sites gone as it's a really swell quilt.

Mousie 08-23-2019 04:13 AM

woohoo, you found it! :)
I am just perplexed when I've lost something and can't get my feelings
right. Having the paperwork that goes with it after all this time is a plus.

WendyMcD 09-10-2019 05:19 AM

I can't believe it... my LA has finished all but the last row of blocks. My quilt will be in the mail again here shortly and we can have another quilt! One without holes where the batiks didn't shatter, one that can be washed because it's not falling apart. It will be so nice. Gee, I need to figure out what I'll use for the binding. I have a nice deep dark blue, has black strands and gold sprinkles, sounds terrible, it's actually a lot nicer then it sounds. I'll have to get you a photo as we get closer. I'm gobsmacked at how fast this came together. Jumping up and down.
