Nifty neat little attachment!

This is new to me and I wanted to share it- Brother has a new sewing machine attachment that lets you sew 1/4" and has a guide on the right side of the attachment so you can't sew more than 1/4". It is almost fool-proof! ( now if they could just come up with something that would guarantee my corner seams would line up!)

Can you post a link or a picture? How is it different from the ones that have been sold now previously? I am not good at a straight 1/4" so I'm always curious.

Do you meant the 1/4" foot with guide? That's been available for years. Is there a new version now?

I love my 1/4" quilting foot. My Janome had one. My new Juki doesn't.. and I've had issues trying to get my seam right - so I ordered a set of them on Ebay... Now I'm just waiting for them to arrive...

I had one but I could never keep it against the little blade. I got the angler and taped it to my bed with painters tape. Another person said the edge of her feed dogs were 1/4. Still haven't sewed and check that one. I bought a 'class machine' a while ago totally forgetting why I don't like drop in bobbin sewing machines.Oh yeah, now I remember...

I have the 1/4 foot with guide for all my machines. I have one for my Featherweight too. It helps to keep the seam straight but I don't rely on it. I use Command Strips to make the edge all across the sewing area. I also have the seam guide that suctions on the sewing extension table. When I was learning to sew an accurate and consistent 1/4 seam I used 1/4" Wonder Tape. It washes out and won't stick to the needle.

I have the 1/4 inch with guide foot for all my sewing machines. I love it. I get perfect 1/4 inch seams without having any trouble. I agree, it's great!

I have this foot for my Brother and it is great, has really helped with my seams.

LindaR 11-19-2012 05:59 AM

I hated it...thought it caught on some seams too much, broke that sucker right off LOL

maviskw 11-19-2012 06:23 AM

Bernina has the 1/4 inch foot with the fence on it also. I don't think they have had it very long. I don't have one for mine, and it's not that old. Now they come with them.

Most of the machines have a version of this. I have a Kenmore, a Singer and a couple of Vikings and they all have had this for quite awhile. I agree, it does make things easier. I take a tip from Nancy Z, I don't worry about the corners, I just sew off the end of the fabric and then turn it so that it aligns up to sew the next side. Works great.

I've gotta say that I didn't understand why a !/4 inch foot was such a hot deal until I used one - LOL. I used a stack of 3m yellow notes to mark the 1/4 seam. BUT after I sewed with the 1/4 foot I became a convert! It's my fav foot, and I wouldn't piece without it.

BryeLynn 11-19-2012 09:22 AM

I have one on my machine too - can't live without it.

That is my prob with the "fence"..it is great for just straight seam sewing, but if you try to piece something with a little "dog ear" it get caught up and drags on that fence....so I prefer to use mole skin as aguide and a 1/4" foot without fence.......

I have had my Brother 8500 for years and years. I just discovered recently that there is a stich that is a straight stitch ''R" with a P beside it. It is called a quilt piecing stitching. It is just a scant 1/4" perfect. I had purchased all kinds of 1/4" feet an accesories and here I had it all these years. I don't wander around as much with it.

I love my 1/4 inch foot. Couldn't quilt without it. I also love my SID foot. Couldn't quilt without it either. :)

I, too, have one for all of my machines. My very first Janome got me hooked on those handy little gadgets! Love them!

I didn't know you could get a 1/4" foot with a guide for the Featherweight. Where did you find it?

misseva 11-20-2012 10:50 AM

I too just bought one. My Brother came with a foot with a guide down the middle like for sewing two pieces of material together. I love my new foot.!!!!!
