nine patch block
I need to make a nine patch block that measures 5 1/2" when complete. What size do I cut my squares?
|
5.5 inches divided by 3 equals 1.83. Adding in .25 seam allowances should make each cut square 2.33 inches. Uggggg..........Are you sure you need 5.5 inches finished? Anyone correct me if I'm wrong. :)
|
wow that is little. the only one I found was 41/2" but I would just add a inch all around. hopes this helps. http://delawarequilts.com/HelpfulHin...atchQuilt.html

I used the method in the link to make a quilt. I had not seen it them made like that and thought I invented it. Just my luck someone beat me to it.

Billie Lauder has shown the easy strip piecing nine patch method for years. Not many newbies know about her Quick Tricks quilting. http://www.easymade.com/

I love Billie Lauder! I wish she were available more online. Her tips are always good.

You can "cheat" - start with a 9P made with 2.5" squares, so it finishes at 6". Turn it into a D9P, which will then measure 5.5" finished.

Draw it on paper, then paper piece each row, or strip piece for accuracy. Best method for me for such odd pieces.

So, without seam allowenses the block will be 5 inch.
However you do your math, it will be a strange size for the patches. 5 inch devided by 3 equals 1.66666 .inch. Then you have to add 2x seam allowense. Or you could say 1 block is 1 2/3 inch excl. seam allowens. As I said, very strange size. But I could be completely wrong of course :-)), after all, I'm only dutch ROFL (yep, that's my excuse) |
