I think the reason a lot of vintage quilts didn't have borders was lack of sufficient fabric to make them. No matter what the trend is, aren't we lucky to be able to make quilts any way that pleases us?
Exactly, sulyle. I don't think my mom or grandma ever put borders on their quilts. They also made the back a little larger than the front so they could pull he fabric around to the front for the binding. I am like you, I make a quilt to please me and its recipient. Right now I am doing one with a ribbon pattern border. I like to try something different if it will lend itself to the quilt design.

Most of my quilts "tell" me that they need borders. Some do not. At any rate, I do not follow fashion in clothing, and I don't with quilting. I say let your quilts speak to you, and the quilt police need to get back to the station.
