This morning, my dog was all over me. "I want to go for a walk". I finally gave in. I wish now that I hadn't. I opened the door and he made a mad dash off of the steps, smashing my left hand, knuckles first, into the side of the doorway. Two of my knuckles are cut, bruised, and swollen. I can barely move my fingers. In fact, I just typed this with my right hand. (It took nearly 5 minutes.)

so sorry to hear that

Marcia 09-27-2008 08:16 AM

Oh, Anne, I am so sorry to hear it. Dogs can get really excited about their walks, can't they? :-) Ice it down good for the swelling and take some tylenol for the pain. Hope you are feeling better and back to the sewing machine soon.

bj 09-27-2008 08:30 AM

Where's the dog whisperer when you need him? I hope your hand heals quickly.

justquiltin' 09-27-2008 08:31 AM

Oh, Anne! How awful! Hope your hand heals faster than you expect!

sandpat 09-27-2008 08:59 AM

So sorry to hear about your extra exhuberant dog Anne. I sure hope your hand heals up quickly...before you start going through withdrawal from sewing!!!

tlrnhi 09-27-2008 09:27 AM

OMG! I do hope you heal quickly! I know you are going to have really bad withdrawals!
I know pup didn't mean to hurt you, he was just excited! Probably had to pee really bad! ;)

rein 09-27-2008 09:49 AM

OMG Anne! How awful for you! Sounds as if you might be hurting for quite some time. HUGS and more HUGS.............

beachlady 09-27-2008 10:18 AM

Feel better soon. Bad dog, bad dog. I am not allowed to walk our puppy anymore because he pulls too hard and my kness can't take it. And that was one reason I got a dog!!!! So I sometimes go along when he is walked just for the exercise!

Take care.

bearpaw 09-27-2008 10:29 AM

That totally stinks! Feel better and take care of that hand!

Moonpi 09-27-2008 10:34 AM

Ow Ow Ow!!! Hope you heal quickly!

nor'easter 09-27-2008 10:38 AM

OUCH!! Rest up your hand...ice cream for the swelling and chocolate for the pain, much better than ice and tylenol! Are you sure nothing is broken? As for Mr. Dog, that's the #2 reason to teach them to go through doors AFTER the person...rule #1 being the person is Alpha and thus deserves to go first. I'm sure he's really, really sorry he hurt you.

mary quite contrary 09-27-2008 10:44 AM

I like Nor'easter's approach to pain killers. I'm sorry you are in pain. That's no fun.

mommaB 09-27-2008 10:55 AM

Oh yes!!! I was "helped" out a doorway once and my silly foot broke when it hit the doorjam!! Darn dog really wanted out!! I use a gentle leader on her now..a type of head harness thingy..and I get to go out the door first and walk at my pace. I know squirrels are really cool, but personally I don't want to chase them down for lunch

Hope your hand heals up fast and for cripe's sake mom, don't wait so long between walks next time

Janeen 09-27-2008 11:09 AM

if that Rottie is the one that dashed out the door, you'd better be learning about YOU being top dog!
The dog should NEVER *ever* ever dash out the door ahead of you...

our daughter has raised rotties and pits and our son had rotties.... they all learned who was 'top dog'... and guess - it never was a "dog" 8)

mamatobugboo 09-27-2008 11:51 AM

oh anne, so sorry to hear that....i can't imagine not being able to quilt for a week...  I am so sad for you, but know that you will heal and be back rarin' to go!! :D :D

Craftybug 09-27-2008 11:55 AM

OH sweetie how awful, if the swelling does not go down with ice make sure you go see the DR.
Hope you feel better soon.

bearisgray 09-27-2008 12:47 PM

OUCH !

Hope you heal quickly.

sondray 09-27-2008 06:31 PM

Sorry to hear that. Hope you heal quick, before you get quilter's block.

zyxquilts 09-27-2008 06:42 PM

Ouch! Take good care of that hand - and guess you can just be designing some quilts (in your head anyway) while it heals up!

Shelley 09-27-2008 06:57 PM

Ohhh, I totally get how you feel.!! I broke my left wrist on Valentines Day (the most expensive date my DH has ever taken me on). No piecing, no quilting on the LA, no NOTHING! for 4 months. It was three weeks before I finally figured out a way to put my bra on by myself. (TMI!) I'm also an accountant. Try doing bookkeeping one handed. I couldn't even open envelopes, staple papers, punch holes, or tie down files. Hopefully this will be a very short term problem!!

Good new. DH did most of the cooking - I couldn't lift pans, strain noodles, etc. And I didn't (couldn't) run the 4-wheeler to go check cow for calving problems. THAT I didn't miss!

littlehud 09-27-2008 07:18 PM

So sorry to hear about your hand. Sometimes our dog and cat kids forget we are in charge. Oh, who am I kidding. My cats and dog run my house. LOL. Hope you feel better soon.

jstitch 09-27-2008 07:25 PM

I guess you will just have to sit there and watch 48 hours

get well soon dear

ScubaK 09-27-2008 07:38 PM

My Jack Russell did this to me awhile back in his excitement to go for a walk...
Ouch! It hurts...
Feel better soon.

Thanks for all the kind thoughts. It is stiff, but the swelling is going down. Miss the chat room.

Our Rottie died last year. The dog we have now was already a year old when we got him.

Tough to type with one hand. Will go into it later on.
