No wonder I thought it was dull!

I put a new blade in my rotary cutter about a month or two ago. The cutting was difficult and tedious so I thought that I may have put an old blade (dull) on it tho it had come out of the package. Today, I was going to change that darn blade and when I took it off of the cutter.....I noticed that it was actually TWO blades!

Silly me! I guess I did not pay much attention when I put it on the last time and the oil had kept both blades adhered to each other. After a silly giggle, I separated the blades and now I am happily cutting away without the fatiguing myself! lesson learned!

You aren't the first person to have done that - and you will probably not be the last. :)

LOL Sounds like something I'd do!

jcrow 05-03-2012 10:08 AM

They do stick together and it's hard to rub them apart. Yes, I have to rub them back and forth to get them apart. They are so oily!!!

Pinkiris 05-03-2012 10:13 AM

Be careful when rubbing the oil off the blades. That's an accident waiting to happen!

momto5 05-03-2012 10:30 AM

Yes, do be careful...if you're not, a slip will cost you!

Sandygirl 05-03-2012 10:52 AM

I'm careful. I just must have thought that it was my last blade and put in on the cutter. I guess I forgot to rub the blade to see if there were more than the "one". Lesson learned. glad to know that others may have done this too.
Sandy

Raggiemom 05-03-2012 10:53 AM

It's easy enough to do as slick as they are.

Shelbie 05-03-2012 10:58 AM

One more thing to check when your blade won't cut well is your screw. If it is too tight, it causes so much resistence that it takes too much effort to cut and a too loose blade doesn't cut straight either. Your blade should roll smoothly without sticking. grabbing or wobbling.

Sandra in Minnesota 05-03-2012 11:50 AM

Here, I thought I am the only dumb, dumb to do that! It must run in the "Sandy" family! hehe

JustAbitCrazy 05-03-2012 03:51 PM

Alex Anderson talked about having done that once on her old "Simply Quilts" show. Lots of people have done that. You have alot of company. It's so easy to do because they are so thin and really stick together.

Happy Tails 05-05-2012 03:05 AM

(arm around Sandra) and I thought I was the only dumb dumb, glad I have sisters :)

sewhat540 05-05-2012 03:48 AM

Well, you gave me some food for thought. Maybe that is why yesterday with new blades put in my cutter that it is not cutting right. See no matter how silly it seems to say things at time, they always help someone out. Thanks for the idea of checking.

Lavada 05-05-2012 03:52 AM

Yup have done that too

MaryAnnMc 05-05-2012 04:04 AM

Um.. I've done that.

Latrinka 05-05-2012 04:25 AM

Haven't done that yet, but doesn't mean I never will!

Christine27 05-05-2012 04:38 AM

I confess. I've done that too!

meanmom 05-05-2012 05:06 AM

I have done the same thing. I couldn't figure out why my new blade wasn't cutting right. It kept making shredded cuts. DUH!!! 2 baldes in the cutter.

grammy Dwynn 05-05-2012 05:28 AM

I have not only ~ been there, done that ~ I have been there done that MORE THAN ONCE! DUH

jaciqltznok 05-05-2012 06:29 AM

hey,,I did that once....drove me nuts as it was an expensive 60mm blade. glad it turned out to be two and my stress level went down...hehehe

amyjo 05-05-2012 06:45 AM

I guess I should say I joined that club too when I first started and changed the blade. couldn't figure out what was wrong. DH pointed it out. Havedone all kinds of things I could kick myself for afterwards, but I am not the only one, because there is always someone on this board who says they have done it too. Happy day!! Amy

Yooper32 05-05-2012 07:06 AM

Donna's have done that too.

carolynjo 05-05-2012 07:26 AM

Been there, done that.

purplefiend 05-05-2012 08:46 AM

I use a seam ripper to separate new rotary cutter blades. Its safer than rubbing them.

charlottemarie 05-05-2012 10:38 AM

I have done that very thing. I was just about to quit rotary cutting when i figured it out!

CAS49OR 05-05-2012 01:55 PM

Were they Harbor Freight blades? I've noticed those really have a ton of oil on them. In fact, using a new one yesterday and finding it so dull I tried the rolling it over foil trick -- I'm going to look and see if I have two in there!

Sandy64 05-05-2012 03:44 PM

It is easy to do! Sandy(another one) 64

Dee 05-05-2012 07:57 PM

You're not alone. I have done this also.

Dee Dee 05-06-2012 05:29 PM

I have done the same thing! Glad someone else admitted it! :)

That's what mine did. I blamed the fabric and had cut most of it when I discovered what I'd done.

BLAP 05-06-2012 06:16 PM

Been there, done that!
