noisy crackle fabric or atleast that is what I am calling it. It is on baby toys and even some cat toys. It make a crackly sound when you rub it. My girlfriends new baby absolutely loves the sound it makes and I want to make something out of it. She said something about maybe a touch blanket.

Does anyone know where I can get it. Also has anyone used it. THANKS!!!

Shemjo 08-12-2009 08:10 AM

It sounds like it would be fun, but I have no idea. Is it washable and durable? Will have to keep my eyes and ears open!

I bought some insulated batting at JoAnn's for potholders. It feels weird, and it did make a crackling noise. Don't know if that's what you're looking for.

Mamaskeeto 08-12-2009 08:35 AM

Haven't seen anyhting like that while shopping but then again I wasn't looking for it.

Lacelady 08-12-2009 08:56 AM

Could you try some bubbly wrapping instead of batting?

Favorite Fabrics 08-12-2009 09:11 AM

How about cellophane? You know, the stuff that you put around gift baskets?

amma 08-12-2009 10:01 AM

I know what you are talking about and yes it is washable. They put it in soft baby toys and I have thrown them in the washer and dry half way in the dryer, line dry the rest of the way.
I too, would love to find this material to make my own baby toys!!!

Use old chip bags, the shiny kind. Cut them open flat and wash them well and sew them in between the layers of fabric you're using.

What a great idea!!!! :D :D :D

I know what fabric you are talking about, but I have never seen it in the fabric store. That would be great to use in a blanket.

Lisa T 08-12-2009 07:04 PM

I just made my cat a toy and stuffed it with foil. Kind of like Bella Boo said, but I used a wrapper from a breakfast bar. The metal foil stuff. Never thought of a chip bag! LOL! I have plenty of those around. The cat likes it. (It's also got catnip in it, though, so maybe he just likes the high. Silly addict cat.)

I have thought of doing this before for a baby blanket, but never did- you will have to tell us how it turns out.

Aren't the baby touch blankets the small ones with the silky ribbons sewn around the blanket in loops so the baby can feel silkys. I just bought my grandkids pieces of silky fabric. Except for Kyel who had to have his Mom PJ top when she would go to guards :P

Missi 08-17-2009 07:21 AM

I have heard those called loop blankets.

For a touch blanket I wanted to do a throw for the floor that would have all different types of fabric that felt different. For example, satin, fleece, fake fur, flannel, minkey, etc. Might even try and get some soft mirrors and sew them down. Just not quite sure but the baby loves that crinkly fabric. He has a butterfly that has wings made out of it and loves it.

If anyone has idea please shoot them my way!

Have read several posts elsewhere about this crinkle 'fabric'. This source seems to have 'some' experience by trying several things and this is what worked best so far for them:

http://www.joyshope.com/2009/05/baby...-tutorial.html

Another source that tried the clear plastic gift wrap was not satisfied with it since it pulled loose and bunched up after washing and did not crinkle. Another used tortilla chip bag, another used potato chip bags (well washed), and another used popcorn bag cellophane (microwave?). These seemed to be crinkly enough to please baby.

Good luck!!

Where to buy Crinkle Material for baby toys

Not sure if you are still looking for crinkle paper for baby toys but American Felt and Craft sells the crinkle material by the yard. http://stores.americanfeltandcraft.c...NEW/Detail.bok

Wow Magdelina that does look like the stuff! I have been wanting to try gailmitchel's post of "baby tag toy" and have been looking for that stuff. I thought of using the bag from the Sun Chips because it is really noisey and tough but didn't know how it would hold up. Thanks!

I made one of the soft fabric books and used a bag from egg noodles. It was crackely but I never washed it so not sure how it would hold up. figured I was just going to throw it away anyway, might as well use it instead of buying something.
another note - I use the plastic 2 piece containers that you get out of machines to put bells or whatever in to put inside a stuffed animal.

lenette 02-05-2012 04:58 PM

I heard from someone to use potato chip or cereal bags.

quiltedsunshine 10-23-2023 06:07 AM

I looked it up on Amazon. Here's a link: https://www.amazon.com/s?k=crinkle+m..._ts-doa-p_2_18

mopec 10-23-2023 06:25 AM

Yes I have purchased this for fidget blankets. I will try to look up to see where I purchased. Cereal bags will also work but the crinkle stuff is better.

bearisgray 10-23-2023 06:30 AM

I saw this on Amazon.com

i made some noisy toys and used inner bags from cold cereal. got the idea here a long time ago. safe for cereal safe for baby

cathyvv 10-23-2023 12:18 PM

Not a clue where to buy that. But, as an alternative, Use an empty food (crackly) plastic bag inside a small, pot holder size quilt. I made one for my grandson; he liked it, but their cat enjoyed it more!

Ask the Mom first. She may not like the idea of the plastic.

I know nothing about this website but they have what you are looking for. https://www.feltandcraft.com/crinkle-material-new-size/

CMQUILTER 10-26-2023 08:20 AM

I think what you're looking for is mylar. It's used as gift wrap and food product bags.
