You should market these - great idea! Probably be on store shelves soon.

roserips 02-13-2014 07:52 AM

You are a very cleaver lady what a great tip.

annievee 02-13-2014 07:59 AM

Thanks for sharing this tip--a great idea !

MargeD 02-13-2014 08:18 AM

Great tip. They say necessity is the Mother of Invention and leave it to a quilter to come up with more uses for everyday items.

aeble 02-13-2014 08:26 AM

What a great tip! Thanks for sharing it.

nygal 02-13-2014 08:39 AM

How imaginative you are!! Great idea.

mighty 02-13-2014 08:45 AM

That is a great idea!!!!

michelleoc 02-13-2014 08:49 AM

Okay, now this is something I have to try! Great idea!

KathyKat 02-13-2014 10:19 AM

Thanks for a great idea!! I'm going to look for these next time I shop.

WMUTeach 02-13-2014 11:30 AM

Wonderful idea. I have been reluctant to purchase the gloves mainly because I don't spend money on gee-gaughs easily. Now your idea is worth a try. If I don't like it, then I can just use them to clean the kitchen sink, the bath tub or .. well you all understand.

fabric lover 02-13-2014 11:35 AM

That's a great idea, thanks a lot

QandE2010 02-13-2014 11:54 AM

That is an excellent idea. I will definitely try it. Matter of fact, I have a couple in my dish cloth drawer. (They came in a pack of three and I'm using one in the kitchen) I agree with Jan. You are crowned MVQ for February.

Sew Hooked 02-13-2014 01:58 PM

GREAT idea!

terri bb 02-13-2014 03:42 PM

great GREAT idea! i use the gloves and they get so dirty so fast and you are always scrubbing them, on top of always taking them on and off. kudos to you!

bjrusty 02-13-2014 04:09 PM

thanks for your tip Barb

JanieH 02-13-2014 04:19 PM

Love this idea. Like you, having to take the gloves on and off to rethread machine, etc., is so frustrating. This is such a good solution!

GrammaNan 02-13-2014 05:19 PM

Now that's using your noggin. I am going to have to try it. Thanks for sharing and for the pics.

Auntie Em 02-13-2014 08:51 PM

Great little tip, it's amazing how something so simple can be so useful. Thanks for sharing

Zinda 02-14-2014 02:15 AM

I find garden gloves work better than dishwashing gloves. I never could get use to the quilter's gloves.

Yooper32 02-14-2014 05:30 AM

What a great tip, thank you for sharing it with us. Now, if I could just dig my way out of here and down off of this snow-bound ridge, I would go look for some.

BCM 02-14-2014 05:49 AM

Very inventive! Thanks for sharing.

Mariposa 02-14-2014 05:54 AM

Great idea! :)

lizzy 02-14-2014 05:57 AM

Thanks for the tip and pictures.

muskratwine 02-14-2014 08:05 AM

I too didn't like the gloves but got a better tip from a friend who is a fabulous machine quilter - use glycerin!! A drop on the palms of your hands makes them just tacky enough to grip the fabric. It does not stain the fabric, is good for your skin and is cheap. A bottle which will last a lifetime is only a couple dollars. I found mine in the first aid aisle at Wal-Mart.

BuzzinBumble 02-14-2014 08:45 AM

You are brilliant! What a great idea.

No, they will "clean it up" and market it for about $25/pair. :D

exactly what I was thinking :) We don't need to help them make more money. You could also use it to clean your cutting board.

Hi Slightly Off Quilter, It is so great to read those ''light bulb '' moments some of you have.We must save so much money avoiding those sooo expensive gadgets that do the same thing!! Thank you,x. Letty

A great tip and I'll have to get a pair of those and try this idea!

I know everyone loves to talk about what they like to use to keep their hands from slipping when free motion quilting, and I have tried alot of them. Before I came up with this idea I was using the machingers gloves, but they made my hands sweaty, and I had to take them off any time I wanted to change a needle, or rethread, then put them back on again. Plus, I have this OCD thing with hyper sensitive skin, and the gloves really sent me to the brink at times. Once I got my machine frame, I never really thought about it again, no more gloves ! Now that I have gone frame free again, I really had to come up with something else.
These are Scotch-Brite Stay Clean Scrub Sponges. You can get them at almost any grocery or dollar store. There are 2 styles of these, one has a regular sponge on one side and scratchy scrubber on the other. This kind that I use has little rubber nubs on one side and micro fiber on the other.

When I first got the idea to try these I was thinking that the nubby side would be great for gripping the fabric, but its not ! Those little nubs slide all over the place ! Now the micro fiber side is perfect ! No slip at all ! They fit perfectly to the shape of my hand too and that is a nice comfort plus !

All I did was sew on some 1 inch elastic to the sides for my hands to slide into and allow me to move my hands without losing the sponge ! I have been in heaven since I made them the other night. No more sweaty hands and slipping my hands in and out of them is super quick and easy ! Plus, they are MUCH more economical to replace when they get icky !

I have met some quilters who use this method as well ! I have some OCD issues and can not even bear to use regular hand lotion=s that I can feel on my skin, so this is most defiantly not something I could ever do LOL !

shirleyd 02-14-2014 08:54 PM

Thanks for the tip! I'm going to try it.

karate lady 02-15-2014 10:31 PM

Hooray for you. wonderful idea.....

KLO 02-16-2014 07:27 AM

This surely seems like a great idea! I use inexpensive garden gloves too but I like your idea better because I won't have to keep taking the gloves off when I need my fingers. Hands should slip out of these easier and quicker. And the price is superb, much cheaper that those Batt Scooters. Thanks for this tip.

nuttyhurricane 02-16-2014 02:02 PM

I will have to.pick up some of that type of sponge and give it a whirl. I have problems with gloves too:-)

AnnT 02-17-2014 01:03 PM
