i am making valances for a few teachers classrooms.
one wants them only 9" long. how do i determine the lenght of the hem? they will have no backing. just a hem.

the other sets were 17", and i did a 3" hem.

For short valances, I usually just do them double with the seam at the top of the rod pocket.

That's how I do them too.

Ditto.

ok, so you mean to just double the fabric up,fold at the bottom, and the seams at the top where the rod will go.

watterstide 08-30-2010 01:35 AM

no craftybear! she brought over 7.5 yards of fabric. and needs:

8 - 60" wide x 9" long and
2 - 35" wide x 9" long.

i babysat the grandson this weekend.
they start back to school a week from tomorrow. so i have a little time.
swing by and give me a hand! i will put the coffee on!

Wow. Our kids are already back in school.
Teachers got the rooms ready a week and a half ago.
It's pretty hot for them all to be out and about, but they start early here.
Maybe it's to compensate ahead of time for hurricanes, floods, etc etc etc (!)

Ok i am ready now...
grab a piece of fabric for me and show me how to do the top part.

i have either 22 inches to work with, or if i fold it is half, like suggested,11".

it crossed my mind..( danger/danger..for a quilter,non sewer )
to sew up like a tube, press the seam, make sure it is at the top..and add a piece to the back for the rod..?
does that sound right? need a little visual help here!

Oh And Good Morning! Kim
