I got to finish quilting my dh marine quilt, but I had to get some other things out of the way first! So this week I finished
a fleece blanket for my son's girlfriend
a cute scarf for her also
10 flannel baby blankies for a local nursery
a fleece blanket with wavy edge & a little neck travel pillow for a chemo patient
a fleece blanket for my sil ( I hope to make her a quilt but not this year)
some pocket warmers
and some mending done that I needed.
Also, got my sewing room cleaned up, so far I feel productive for a change! Does anyone else feel like this?

You have been busy! In the last couple days, I made 5 pairs of mittens, 3 hats, & have started on fleece socks. Today I made 2 batches of almond toffee, & 2 batches of cookie dough. I feel productive, but I'm tired tonight! (I didn't mention the housework & laundry I did!) I'm going to get up early & try to finish my slippers & bake those cookies! And maybe clean my sewing room... I think it's having a deadline (Christmas!) that makes me more productive.

I too have been busy-made 22 tree ornaments, a tree skirt, a table runner and now putting the border on an applique wall quilt-all the past week. My new sewing machine just arrived-yea! A Brother PC420 Project Runway-which I have been trying to learn how to use! (I was my own Santa this year!) Today I took time to put up and decorate the tree! I just put the blinders on when walking thru the house so I don't feel guilty for the mess that has accumulated from neglect!

Wow! I wish I could find more time for sewing! I'm jealous, there just isn't enough hours in a day.

Busy Busy!! What kind of ornaments did you make? I am looking for a "different" ornament for this year and have yet to find one that I like! :)

I too need to be doing one quilt but can't seem to stay with it. I did get it cut out and pressed. I get two whole blocks made too. I made a bed pocket, a bulleting board, a turtle, a dog, and an elephant cut out. I cut out a table runner. Laid out material for two more and pressed all the material I bought from on here and then all I got from other places as well. I made two pillow cases and dug out someof the stuff I had put in the closet. My legs are so swollen I can't push the pedal so I quit for the night.

pocket warmers? please explain. my nephew and his dad are going to try ice fishing this year and those sound like "just the ticket"

deedum 12-05-2010 06:03 AM

Gina_D,
I got baking on my list too! I know you got to be tired, I am too and got a lot to do yet. How did you make those mittens? Were they out of fleece or did you knit? I thought about making a few pair, another thing to add to my list.

We did get our tree up yesterday too!

deedum 12-05-2010 06:08 AM

Cheerio
just little (rice) bags you heat in the mircowave and stick them in your pockets to keep your hands warm, they stay warm for quite awhile, if you use field corn, I understand they stay warmer longer( my sil asked me to make her some :)

Jennifer22206 12-05-2010 06:13 AM

yes you certainly have been busy! I have 3 quilt tops done, need to quilt 2 and bind the other one. I'm getting there!
Still have 2 more aprons to make and hoping to get a purse done. We'll see.

Love the idea of pocket warmers!

Feed stores carry it, sometimes you can even buy it by the pound out of bins :D:D:D

I made the mittens out of fleece, & some recycled wool sweaters I picked up at a Good Will store. They were lined with fleece also. (I have a lot of fleece to use up!) I got the pattern at the Alaska Cooperative Exchange Service for $3. There are about 4-5 patterns for different styles & sizes. For the cuffs, I used some t-shirt knit that I've got laying around.

Can I see a pic of the Marine Quilt please? I have a Marine here and would love to make him one. Tx

I haven't been able to do much of anything the last few days. My husband just had surgery for a shoulder replacement and he is taking up most of my time. Had his first shower today after 4 days, he feels better and I'm worn out, those darn socks that he has to wear are awful to put on. I then had to go outside and shovel as we had a little more snow this morning. I think I'm ready for a nap. Only 6 more weeks to go!!!!

cherrio 12-06-2010 04:34 PM

ahhhh! I make various sizes and shapes to-heat and put on my daughter's crampy belly, my achy shoulder and yes-to keep the bottom of the bed, where the puppies sleep, warm.

yeah, I want to know that one too!
I did make 11 bookmarkers on my embroidery machine over the weekend. Also 1 Christmas ornament. Now I am trying to finish up the flannel blankets for the hosp pediatrics ward. Only have 7 more to go before I deliver them.
I also want to make some stuffed teddy bears - hopefully before Christmas, but if not... they will still be appreciated in the new year.

Well, here is the top, in the process of quilting now. My dh had his input on the quilt design. No real pattern. I found it hard to find marine material, so this is what I ended up with.

Bubblegum0077 12-06-2010 07:10 PM

Sometime before the end of the year I want to make a (4x4) mini quilt to hang in my car from my rear view mirror. Now considering how long it takes me to make larger ones, this should be a no brainer or at least take a hour or less to make. Just a brain fart, but i would love to hang one in my car. hmmmm

I was recently in Melbourne (and Sydney) and would have been glad to help you out! I fly over to Vanuatu a couple times a year (lived there for 18 years) now that we are semi-retired (still have our cafe in Port Vila), so it's a short trip to Australia from there!
