Not Quite What I Pictured
 

I started the Cozy Quilt Design "Popped Art" quilt that I just loved, but my fabric is not right and I'm not happy. I'm posting the picture...it was just a rough layout and it's missing the sashing between each block and rows.

I am so disappointed. Although, it's only going to be in my camper so...

Your thoughts?

I like it, and that is without sashing. I like how the prints form a diagonal line across the quilt, and that is going to be lost with sashing.

I have found that no matter who much I don't care for a top I've made, I never had any trouble finding a home for any of them. you might want to consider finishing this up and donating it, and then starting over and using the experience you gained for a second try.

yes, you could do them without sashings and do a wider border!!

The sashing is the same material as the half triangle...the tan fabric. It was difficult to find a fabric that went with all the different colors so I did neutral. I'll be putting it together with sashing this weekend. Fingers crossed. And thank you for the feel good comments. I needed that today.

You can turn the blocks to make pinwheels. That may give it a different look for you. Once a top is layered and quilted it makes a big difference. I think you will be surprised at how much you do like it once it's finished.

What is it you don't like about them?

Maybe you could add color by fmq or embroidery or even applique in the negative spaces?

When I look at your blocks arrangement, it seems like most dark blocks made it down to the bottom. It seems to me somewhat unbalanced. I would try to shift the blocks until you get something that says "this is it" to you. And it is very nice already without a sashing.

Your blocks are nice, but not stunning. What if you actually created a pattern with the blocks? Like put the dark ones in the center in either a pinwheel pattern or with all the HST's in the center? Then try all the same colors around that, maybe with something different in the corners that would lead out to something else? What about using a different sashing in the center both horizontal and vertical to create an interest point? Use that same darker color to emphasize all the lights.

Another idea, use your colors on the diagonal to create color lines in your quilt. Right now, to me, they just look jumbled. One last idea and I'll hush. If your sewing machine has a fancy stitch function, why not quilt your sashing's in an accent color? I would do the dark blue to add pizazz to the project. Put two lines equal distance from each side in the sashing so that you really see them. This can be done after you have completely finished the quilt.

I think this is a very nice neutrals quilt!
