I spent yesterday cutting strips to do a Bargello quilt, but not so sure I want to attempt that now. The more I think about it the more scared I get. All those strips sewn, then cut at the same time to make a row, and cut in a tube no less. How do you keep the tube from shifting in the cutting process and making a total mess of the strips.
I'm wondering if I should just take the strips and make a different quilt instead.

You will do fine. Bargello quilts are awesome and really fun to make. We are here for you, you can post your progress as you go.

I know how you feel. But do try it, Once you have used the tube methed you will enjoy it, when sewing strips together , sew in alternating directions, make sure all seams are pressed correctly and line up, and keep even firm presure on your ruler, When I started my bargello I cut the first 5 strips put them on my design wall to check placement, sewed together then cut 5 more added to first five on wall then sewed. that way If I got lost it was only 5 strips. It is slow work, but I have enjoyed it. Yep it is a WIP!!LOL

You've done the hard part already. START SEWING!

Don't be scared, you know you want to make it, if it doesn't come out quite right, you'll learn something, and rip it apart and make it right.

Some bargellos start in the middle and work out to the edges some start from one side usually the left and go to the right of your piece. Whatever your pattern says Label each strip as you cut it. I take a strip of painters tape (stays stuck on fabric but no sticky residue), stick it on the edge of my cutting table, write the numbers, letters or whatever on the strip, and stick the label on the strip as soon as it is cut from the tube. This keeps me organized. I use the wooden pants hangers with the dowel that unhooks from the little wire bar and hang my strips in the order they are to be sewn. Just one way to stay organized but works for me.

I've always said, do not fear the Bargello! You are going to amaze yourself. Yes, pictures please! Enjoy the process! I hope you can tell that these strips are all numbered.

don't give up yet....cutting the strips to make sets is the hard part! just remember when you make your sets to sew one direction and then on the next strip sew from other end....it will help keep them from curling (it does work)....after the tubes are made and time to cut into different widths, try just cutting a few at a time. It might help to keep the confusion down. Once you get it straight in your head what you are doing and can see the pattern emerging, you will be able to cut more at a time. Just keep ur chin up and stay with it until you can see the pattern.....then you won't be able to stop. And everyone on this board is waiting to see your finished quilt!

Well I started the sewing process. I'm alternating sewing ends using care to make sure one end is all even as possible. I'm also not skipping any steps. Getting up and pressing (not ironing) the seam allowance all in one direction as I go. I think this is going to be a long process for me, but I really want to do good on this. It's for my bed so I want it to look good. When I get further along I will post pictures. Thanks everyone for the encouragement. When I run into a wall, you can be sure I will ask for assistance.
