If you are using the General's Pastel Chalk Pencils this site says this about them:

"General’s Pastel Chalk Pencil is a mixture of chalk and clay. The chalk will generally rub off while you are quilting, however the clay lines will remain on your top for the duration of the quilting (machine quilting will often remove more than hand quilting). When finished the remaining chalk and clay can be brushed off with a terry-cloth washcloth, erased with a fabric eraser or washed in cool water."

Hope this helps you.

It looks like the washed part is fading. For final washing after you are completely done quilting. Wash in detergent and oxyclean. It is safe for all colors and should remove the remaining lines. Beautiful work as usual Don.

I would try some Dawn dish detergent, as it says it is chalk clay. I might even start with making a small sample and try it first. And if those are 2 inch blocks, your quilting is exquisite!!

Try not to iron before washing out any marks, no matter what you use. I found that Dawn works well on marks, but there are many other products out there too. It can be impossible to remove some marks if you heat set....ask me how I know.

If I have stubborn marking lines that don't come out after the first wash, I use a bit of liquid dawn dish soap and 'scrub' with an old soft toothbrush. A bit of work but the marks usually come out after that.

dawn is my go-to for getting stubborn stains out. Good luck and check back with us to let us know how it all went.

Beautiful work! I have heard so many horror stories of marking tools, I am afraid to use any of them! I guess I will make a test block and throw in wash...tho not everyone washes the quilt when complete
