Note to self

:mad:Don't you ever use marking pencils/chalk again!!! I'm washing my quilt for the second time and hoping and praying the marks will come out this time. I spent so much time using a stencil to mark a quilting design in the blocks and border only for it not to come out when I tried to use a damp cloth. Please keep your fingers, toes, etc. crossed for me.

Oh -- sorry to hear that! Hope it all comes out!

OUCH! That's painful...to do all that work and not have the markings come out. Hope you have success!

Tell us more, which marking tool on what color fabric....yikes..........

OH, so sorry to hear that. :(

I always check a scrap from the quilt top with a marking utensil before using it on my quilt. Saves alot of headache. I learned the hard way.

What brand of 'chalk' and what color do you use?
Some 'chalks' have a wax/grease binder in them.
Some colors, like blue and yellows, seem to be much harder to get out.

I personally use a white chalk powder thing called a Chaco Liner from Clover that I've had great success with.
Joannes carries the blue and yellow; avoid those.

I had problems with blue and yellow chalk in the past. I only use white now.

Marking is such a challenge. You want to be able to see the marks by having them dark enough and not rub off while you're wrestling the quilt through your machine while at the same time have them come off easily when you're ready to be done with them. I agree, avoid yellow and blue. I use a chalk mechanical pencil that seems to work for me.

Try soaking in Biz. I have been able to remove stubborn marks with it.
