Thanks all for the comments on my practice OBW. This fabric had a 12" repeat so a two yard piece was all I needed. I split that in half length wise and only used one half for the table runner.

very pretty

turned out very pretty

What is OBW?
I just got it! ONE BLOCK WONDER :-)
So very pretty. I just bought a 60 degree template and a OBW is why. You are an inspiration.
Thank you and good luck. I just used the 60 degree lines on my regular ruler for this one, but intend to buy a 60 degree triangle template for the next one. I want to incorporate some cubes and really need one for that.
I like your OBW better then the original fabric.
That is so awesome! I have bought both books (the first one and the second) but have not got up the couage to try it yet.
I love them. They are so beautiful. I've posted a couple of times asking for a good, beginners book on OBW, but no one has ever responded with a book/designer name. PLEASE, PLEASE TELL ME WHAT RESOURCE YOU USED!!! I really don't want to spend the money on one that is too advanced.
There are 2 books I bought called one block wonder by maxine rosenthal and the 2nd is one block wonder encore. There is also a tutorial that cutebuns did here on the board. Hope that helps.
Very Nice indeed
Beautiful!
Lovely to start with a "practice piece". Yours looks very nice, so now what is next?
I'm still not understanding what a OBW is. Is it one piece of fabric that you quilt lines into? In your case, did you only quilt diagonal lines or did you do something special to make the flowers "pop out"?
Hi: I love this board, but I don't get all the initials. Is there a
guide somewhere? What is OBW? what are all those initials that people use to refer to relatives? Thanks, M.E. |
OBW?
Here comes the stupid question. What is OBW?
delcity66 |
I looked in my stash to do a "practice" and I just don't do larger scale prints - so I went to Thousand bolts and bought some of their cheaper cuts . Toatally out of my comfort zone but I'm going to try it.
Wow! what a great job you did. Now one to the good fabric.
Beautiful! Thanks for sharing.

Good job! Have the book and will search through fabric.
Just gorgeous
That is very pretty! I will try a OBW someday but have lots of others first.
Very pretty! Wasn't that fun?
That is a great idea ..table runner! Turned out fabulous. Another ... I want to do it too.

Looks like you have it figured out! I am working on my first one and am anxious to get to the design part. Haven't had time this last week to sew at all.

Caroline - I think the "Flower Garden" piece will make up beautifully in a OBW.
Very pretty.
I am working on my first OBW and will have enough blocks out of 2 yards to do a runner and a couple of place mats all out of Christmas fabric. I am enjoying do it but would never make a full size quilt out of that pattern.LOL |
Caroline S
Use the Flower Garden print. The first one , Nuance, has too much solid brown and the patterns are very similar to what you'll get with the OBW method. Unless you fussy cut your triangles out of the printed areas, then it would work fine. |
Yes, I like the Flower Garden fabric the best. My quilting daughter agrees with you. Maybe I will gift her the Nuance fabric.
thats a great idea and how pretty it is
Perfect!
You're so much smarter than I am...since I just jumped right in when I made my first one......and did the whole bedsize quilt with "expensive" fabric. I am now working on the 7th or 8th and no stopping in sight. They are addicting, but come to think of it, so are star blocks, flying geese, 4 patch, 9 patch, all of them!    |
How big are the squares on a OBW or is it what used to be called a whole clother quilt?
For all the ladies asking about OBW have a look at the Topic List - follow this link, it's about halfway down the list. There's some information there about the books that are available for the different techniques. If you click on the topic title, it willl take you to a list of the Picture threads featuring this type of quilt. http://www.quiltingboard.com/virtual_section_list.jsp
