Mamagus 12-07-2009 08:05 AM

When I started sewing many years ago,
There was just so much that I wanted to know.
I'd call up my Mom, always eager to share
All of her knowledge from her easy chair.
If Mom didn't know she'd call on a friend
And many a hour of chatting she'd gladly spend.
"I'm sorry Lori, we really don't know...
But here are ideas, so give them a go."
My results were mixed and often just bad
And sometimes my sewing made me SO mad!

I knew I was destined to make things by hand
So other crafts were tried and I came a big fan,
Of cross-stitch and tole, scrapbooking too...
But deep down inside I knew what I must do!
So back to the sewing room I went with new books
And magazines by the back load were all worth a look!
My questions remained but I muddled by
I brainstormed solutions and gave them a try!

I got better and better and learned a few things
And OH how I loved how my SINGER would sing!
I bought a Janome, the queen of the quilts
And yes the price tag gave me great guilt!
And then in December of 2007
I stumbled into what I call "Quilt Heaven".

The quilting board came into my life,
Just four short months after I became a new wife.
Eight months more and I could retire
And I tell you friends, this place lit my fire!
I now have a place where I celebrate
All the events and projects that have happened of late!
I ask all my questions and I've answered a few
And I now have a network of friends... all of you!
We laugh and we share, we send out our good wishes
And share our recipes for those really great dishes.

If I can't find a link, then I ask in a post
And in come in the answers in a few minutes (at most!)
I watch all the tutes and I learn quite a bit.
The QUILTING BOARD has become a great hit!
So thanks to you all for being here.
As I soon will celebrate my second year,
Of learning and sewing and sharing with you
All of the wonders of quilting with this wonderful crew!!

Thank you to the administrator for giving us this opportunity!

 You certainly have a way with words. I too am fairly new to the Quilting Board and can't tell you how much it has helped me. Certainly glad I stumbled upon it. and thank you for putting it all together in an fun way. Looking forward to all that will be coming our way in the future through our questions, concerns and whatevers! To all on Board thanks for sharing.

Mamagus 12-08-2009 05:12 PM

Thanks everyone! I wrote that in about 20 minutes yesterday morning.
At my school before I retired I was the "Official Rhymer". Anyone needing a rhyme on any topic came my way! I miss doing that now!

The board and all of you have helped me transition from a fulltime working single mom to a retired homemaker, empty nester and new wife! Life has so much beauty in it and I think it helps to be positive about all the changes life brings us!

Happy Holidays to all of you!

mountain-moma 12-08-2009 05:28 PM

So beautifuly said you have a way with words and Thanks ADMIN!!!!

ctmhjenn 12-08-2009 06:32 PM

I have to say, I loved every word. I did the same things you did, x stitch, tole, garments, anything to keep my hands busy and accomplish something, BUT...I found out about quilting about 10 years BEFORE I retired, and I started to buy and buy and buy, knowing I was going to use everything I could lay my hands on, from fabric to gadgets, to magazines to pins..and then one day....I RETIRED! That was 12 years ago and I have been sewing ever since. I am not great, but what I do make, I love and the ones I give away they love them too. I also quilt for charity on my longarm, so I am busy all the time. I love it and would NEVER go back to the other things I use to do. This is the love of my life.

skjquiltnut 12-09-2009 11:59 AM

WOW!!! You have so captured and expressed the way we feel about this group. Have a Holiday!
