Oh Boy! DH got me for Christmas........

A very large gift certificate for Lolly's in Shipshewana, IN. He is so sweet. I think I'll keep him. Should I spend it upstairs in the regular store or downstairs where everything is $5.00 a yard? Those of you who live in this area know what I'm talking about and why I'm so excited.

That's an easy decision - if you usually limit yourself to shopping downstairs, then now's the time to break free and buy some fabrics you usually wouldn't allow yourself. Good husband!

No, we opened our gifts last night so we could use them today. He got a Kindle Fire for Christmas and he can use it while I'm driving the four hours to son's house for a couple of days. Unfortunately Lolly's is closed today. However, I may wait to spend it until February when they have their pajama sale. If you show up at 7:00 am (I think) in your pjs everything is 20% off (I think).

gramajo 12-24-2012 04:57 AM

I'd plan to spend hours there. :) Check out both upstairs and downstairs, make notes on what you really like, then look them all over again and buy what you absolutely love. Have fun shopping.

deedum 12-24-2012 04:57 AM

Oh lollys. How fun. Was there in October and enjoyed my visit to the area. Up or down lollly's is great! Have fun.

KarenR 12-24-2012 05:15 AM

Have fun.
I would have to go two or three times to plan what I would want to make. Make a list and then go on PJ day.

You could get more for your gift if you went on PJ day.

Our newspaper here in Virginia just had an article on Shipshewana. I told my husband "Boy, I would love to go there and visit the quilt shops" and the area. Sounds like a wonderful gift. Merry Christmas.

What a great guy. I suspect you'll find fabric you love in both shops. I've been there once and loved it! Wish I lived closer (Then again, maybe not)! Enjoy.

Great gift! I usually wind up with something from both shops:)

hsweany 12-24-2012 01:56 PM

OOOH, I looked this up and now I want to go! It looks like such a lovely place. Have fun shopping!

Great gift and a thoughtful husband. The quilt store sounds great. If I ever get up that way, I'll have to drop by.

Merry Christmas!

The $5 a yard room was up to $6 a yard when I was there in October. Still a good buy. I got some really nice flannel for a backing.

jbj137 12-25-2012 08:00 AM

O for sure wait till PJ Day.
Nothing better than Quilting & PJs.

cowgirlquilter 12-25-2012 08:36 AM

Woooo hooo! Can't wait to see what you bring home!!!!!

I love gift certicates to fabric stores, it is like free money, I usually buy rulers and things I don't really need, but want. If you go on pajama day, you got a whole month to dream -- have fun and congratulations!!!

gmaybee 12-25-2012 03:03 PM

I always start down stairs to see if they have what I need, and then go upstairs to the main store to get the extras. My husband gave me a gift certificate to the quilt shop where I teach, so double bonus for me. I'll get my discount when I spend it.

Don't worry about price. Pick fabrics you can't live without.

Lolly's~My favorite quilt shop! I usually shop downstairs because I love "the boat." I usually can find bunches of wonderful fat quarters to make complete quilts! Second favorite part is the upstairs store. The selection is fabulous and the quality if tops!
I'd wait until the pajama sale and use it then-more bang for your buck!!! Congratulations! Keep the Hubby!

I plan to keep the hubby. He's great. My granddaughter loves the boat, too. I usually let her pic one fq to buy and she uses if for something for her dolls. I know that part of the money will be spent on the new Audra's Iris Garden collection. That's the most beautiful fabric I've seen in a long time. I have bought a layer cake so I can see samples of the fabric line rather than just pictures.

I would love to go there. It looks like about a 4 hour drive for me:-( I was just on the website the pajama sale is Feb 2. My SIL and I sometimes go away for a long weekend. Maybe we need to go there? I will talk to her about it. Great Gift sounds like you husband is a keeper. I got $200 cash to buy sewing stuff. My DH says he is afraid to go in a fabric store. He says they don't allow men in there. Enjoy!

You should wait until the pajama sale in February. You must be there at 6 a.m. and you must be dressed in your pjs and the deals are great.

Hi, Karen. WE used to live in Warsaw, Indiana, and tried going to Shipshewana one time, but was in traffic for over an hour and my father-in-law got quite restless. We have a friend in Nappanee who mentioned Lolly's to us and if I live long enough, I'm going to go there. When we lived up there, Shipshewana was the place to go. Be sure and tell us about your trip there, and from what I understand - you need to plan on a full day.

The traffic used to be worse than it is now. The recession etc has slowed it down. There are several other places to go too. Yoder's Dept. Store and Specter's. Now a new place in Middlebury near Essenhause. Small quilting store with a long arm. Also one in LaGrange. Gotta hit them all. It's a State of Indiana rule.

You must eat at The Blue Gate, and then at Essenhause. Be sure to try the chicken and the roast beef. Shopping makes me hungry.

How do you do it? Get your family to give you gift cert., I mean. I hint and hint and hint and I get blouses that don't fit, aren't my style and whine up in the 'good will' bag. I hate standing in line to exchange things. This year I got a ton of dried fruit, cheeses, and dried meat. They know I am an overweight diabetic. I have a nice size stash but who among us couldn't use a little more.

I'm overweight and diabetic but the dried fruit, cheeses and meats are my downfall. I want a chunk of extra sharp cheddar right now!
