here is a pattern I purchased and used scraps to closely follow her color choices. It will be raffled off at our church supper this sunday.
Patricia
the pattern is October Sky by Cathy Wierzbicki

Beautiful - with the oranges/rusts/browns/ and blue-green tones

Some patterns do work better when the 'original' is fairly closely followed.

Somehow, I don't 'see' that one done in purple and pink!

I'm sure they would be pleased that you copied their colors. Your's will be different even if you use the same colors--unless you used the same fabrics they used. Go for it!!

I would encourage you to go ahead and use her colors, even her fabrics...that way you know you will get the results you want. After all that was what she had in mind when she designed it.

I would also encourage you to spread your wings as you move forward in your quilting journey and begin to let your fabrics guide your pattern choices. I'm one of those for whom the fabric speaks to me more than the pattern.

When I was doing garment sewing, it was mostly the pattern first then the fabric, but now it's usually the fabric first. LOL!

Your top is lovely. I figure once anything is in the public domain(net) it is going to be copied by someone.

It turned out beautiful. Nice job.

Yes, use her colours if that is what makes you comfortable and you like them. As has been said before, you have purchased the pattern and ruler so there is no copywrite problem and you can slowly stretch your colour wings as you get more at ease with colour.

Over at the International Patriotic Challenge we would love to see your progress and we will encourage you the whole way :). http://www.quiltingboard.com/quiltin...e-t186260.html

What is a squedge 18 ruler? Thanks

A lot of magazines will tell exactly which fabrics were use to make a quilt so I'm sure they expect that quilters will copy the quilt with those fabrics.

"Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery". It would be affirmation that I had done something right if someone copied my color choices.
