But......what exactly is a "quilting retreat" ?
Don't hit me too hard cause I'll cry!

I think just when you pack up your sewing project, machine, and head for the hills and just do your thing over a weekend with some gals...

We are having one in August! Wanna come on up? Too much fun!

I hope it isn't like a 'work retreat' ... My supervisor keeps saying we need a 'retreat' when I throw out suggestions like mini golf, lunch & the qulit museum... she tells me it's 'not that kind of a retreat'.... so why call it a 'retreat' at all? call it 'working off site'.

I've never been to one either, Marsye, but they sure sound like a lot of fun from what others have posted!
:)

I've been to tons of them. It's where someone organizes that a bunch of people will go away for a weekend and sew/quilt all weekend long. Usually someone else does the cooking so quilters can sew. Usually there is a common room where everyone puts their sewing machines and "stuff". That common room needs to have a lock on it, and the last person to bed locks the room, giving the key to the front desk. The first person up in the morning opens the room. Because our equipment/tools/fabrics, etc can be quite expensive, there always has to be someone in the room at all times (this is especially true if it's in a hotel where other guests are staying).

Some are very structured with classes at set times, others don't have any classes at all.

My SIL's went to one, and they had a wonderful time! They spent a long weekend at a lovely resort in the mountains and all they did was quilt, eat and visit with other quilters. Well, OK, there might have been a wee bit of sipping in the social hours, lol, but I wasn't there so can't tell any tales. I do know they are all eager to repeat the experience at any given opportunity.

I've been to hotels (ones with a pool are great for your aching back at the end of the day), girl/boy scout camps, Catholic retreat houses, really any place that will have a room large enough for everyone to put their sewing machines/equipment in so we can all be together.

Sometimes the retreat is limited to the number of people that will fit in that room. In one of my quilt groups, they have to have 2 retreats every year for this very reason.

P.S. The woods won't work because they don't have electricity.
