I made these blocks a few years ago and they were just laying there. I had put them together with a plain dark green sashing and then too them apart figuring I could do better,Well ... almost 2 years later lol
I decided to set them on point and use plain white blocks inbetween, not sure if I am going to quilt or embroider a matching design on those Maybe just quilt. And I am thinking of putting a 1 or 1.5 inch strip around the blocks. Here is my dilemma Do I put the dark medium or light blocks angled down the center or do what I did in # 4 . I am leaning toward # 4 . What do you all think? Oh BTW have you ever Tried to match fabric years after you bought the original? LOL talk about frustrating. #4 light #1 medium #2 dark #3 |
I'm with you - #3 - I think the dark is drawing your eye, so it's easier to look at the diagonal line than with the darks jumping around.
|
I'll go with 4, the last one. For some reason I thought there were only three of them.
|
#4 is the one I like best
|
i vote for #4
|
Nice blocks, I like #3
|
# 4 has better balance in the placement of the blocks.
|
I like #4 better, but three is nice too. As for matching fabric two years after the fact, Honey I can't match fabric two weeks after the fact! it's very annoying! LOL!
|
I like #3. It seems to flow better.
|
Thanks I thought it #4 was a little different I guess thats why i like it.
So inch of purple inbetween or no? I was able to match up the weave of the muslin I used I just need to wash it before I cut. Hopefully I won't get this thing part way together and get bored with it like I did the OBW. :-) |
I like either #3 or #4, but I'd rather not have the blocks bordered. I think it distracts. A border or binding in the purple would set it off perfectly.

Tried to do it by paper piecing couldn't figure out what order to do it so decided to just piece them. Got them all sewn together and realized the outside 4 corners were all wrong. I made them dark and they should have been light. There was no star. So I am sitting here ripping them apart and then I need to cut 1.5 inche light squares and put them back together. Oh Boy!! |
ooo lookie!
here's another v pattern, without that row of same blocks dark med light light dark med dark med light all V's this one would work with any color combination switched, in any direction, left to right, or up & down. yay! |
I would make this in rows--three dark, three light, then three dark...either way, horozonal or vertical

There were 3 other suggestions that I took photos of.
Just to see what they look like #5 #6 #7 |
The middle one is is very vibrant with all the lights in the middle row. I wouldn't have thought of that.
Do you like any of them? oops! I just realized #4 & #7 are the same, just turned dif directions. So sorry, I suggested something you had already done. |

I thought you might like to see how far I have gotten. Yeah I thought I would be done by now too. But peicing the border and trying to get everything to fit is a real bear.
Now I just have to figure out where to go from here. I have very little bits(less than a fat quarter) left of the green like is in the border, the light purple and the medium purple in the blocks. I have about a yard and a half left of the purple in the diamonds( thanks Sewcrafty for the help with the diamonds) and I have white. I can get (I think more of the white and purple thats in the diamonds. I will say that I give a lot of cudos to people who enter shows. I couldn't get the points on my diamonds to match up all the time to save my life. And I did take my time. Took me about 15 hours to do them |
