First off, I started to make a quiltedpillow for DH's grandmothers b'day this weekend. Well, I got a little carried away and said that I would just do a hanging instead...not too bad yet, right? Well, now I have the middle strip of a lap quilt and I don't know what do to make the sides and make it into something that resembles a quilt that was well thought out. I would post apic but DH is not home and I don't know how to do it. :oops:

Secondly, I have class tonight. We are working on a quilt but its between a class and open quilt. Due to the time frame that I need to get this done do you guys think I can work on this there tonight? Tell me honestly though if teacher or anyone there may think I'm nuts since I am not following any pattern...

Can you make another strip like the 1st one and add sashing in between them and then a border?

I assume that the strip you made is pieced? I would try to find a fabulous print and frame the pieced center with printed side panels. If timing is an issue, this would be a fast solution.

If the piece started as a pillow, morphed into a wall-hanging, and now looks like the center of a lap quilt, can it possibly morph into a table runner?

Thank you, these are very helpful. I just reread my post and it sounds silly but I was stressing....always try to do it 'all' an not leave myself enought time. I do have good intentions, but not the most patient person in the world....lol. :oops:

Anyway, the teacher at class was very helpful. She didn't mind at all that I switched projects and we ended up designing two narrower panels and a couple of 1.5" borders just to frame out the panels. Then I will add the border all around and she will teach me how to bind it (cuz I have no clue...). She actually offered to meet me at the LQS on Saturday to work with me so I can perhaps get it finished as long as I do my 'homework' between now and then.

I actually like how its coming out, I promise to post a pic when it's done - even if its not perfect it will be my first one and I know his grandmother will like it anyway.

It doesn't have to be perfect to be loved. I had made a small lap quilt for my beloved late father-in-law a couple of years ago, and it was much-loved. He shared with me at the time I gave it to him that his late sister was a very talented quilter, but when she passed away at a young age, their mother gave all of the quilts away his sister had made, and my father-in-law would have treasured one, but sadly, none were offered to him. Your quilt will be treasured because of the love you put into making it. Bless you!
