How do you make the basic nine patch? I know it can be done with strips, but I have just searched (poorly, apparently) and can't find the basic instructions. I'm fairly new to quilting, and I made some sort of nine patch a year ago, but I just followed the instructor's directions and guess I didn't do any thinking about what I was doing.
So, how do you make the basic nine patch, using strips? Thanks. |
Here is a nice tutorial.
It starts with the individual squares but then also shows the strip method. http://www.daystyledesigns.com/9patchquiltblock.htm |
Yes!!! Thank you. The second part is exactly what I need. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!

Choose two fabrics, A and B.
Cut strips the width of one square of the 9-patch + 1/2". Sew A-B-A set; sew B-A-B set of strips. Press seams toward same color on both sets. Cut crosswise, the same width pieces as original strips. You will need two pieces from one set and one piece from the other set for each 9-patch block. |
Leota,
Thanks ! Ell |
Here is another free pattern that shows how to do it.
