Two large pins. (Mine are still diaper pins. Lol. ). Pinned to ironing board -- a strip pulled through as you iron !! This board fits between my sewing machine and desk. I can SIT down while preparing my binding strip. I still like this method instead of the electric binding thing I bought a few years go! Some tips just need to stay around!!

Great idea - I think that Fons & Porter have had something similar on their TV show

DO YOU DO THIS FOR BINDING OR FOR MAKING BIAS? I HAVE MADE BIAS THIS WAY AND IT IT REALLY A SLICK WAY TO DO IT. i READ ON THIS BOARD LAST WEEK THAT IT IS JUST AS EASY, OR EASIER, TO NOT IRON YOUR BINDING DOUBLE, BUT JUST TO SEW IT ON AND FOLD IT AS YOU GO. i TRIED THIS AND FOUND IT TO WORK REALLY WELL. AND IT SAVES ONE STEP.

I don't iron my binding anymore - just fold over as I sew. Works for me!

I really do this!! Was doing it when I took pic!! Lol. It's worked for 30 years!! I do on all bindings. Might try not folding, but I can do this ahead and store it way! Old habits are hard to break!

what a great tip....I always do my binding the minute I'm done with a quilt, then when I get it back from the longarmers it's ready to sew on....I like to finish one thing before I start another!

Where is the fun? Get reckless and have SEVERAL projects going at the same time!! LOL

LTeachergeorge 10-28-2012 06:43 AM

Right now I have 8 quilts to be bound!!! I usually don't let them pile up so badly, but I've been working hard to finish donation quilts by Thanksgiving, and Christmas gifts so I'm not one of those people who has to cry and beg my LAQ to get it quilted in time. LOL!!

I just learned a reason not to fold binding. It takes more fabric on the top than at the bottom.Never thought of it that way but I have tried it and it makes sense. It is a little more awkward at first but once you learn, it works much better. Betty in Illinois

Sorry about the stupid pictre. I did not intend to put that in. Don't know how it happened and can't seem to get it out.

Pink Dogwood 10-28-2012 08:44 AM

Great idea!! I recently read about putting the binding on without creasing it and that's what I want to try next time. Did try it on a purse and seemed to go well. Thanks for sharing.

The dog quilt, right? I love it and would like to know more about it! Maybe you should start a thread about it! Thanks!

I still fold my binding in half and press it. Works well for me. If it isn't broke don't fix.

nise 10-28-2012 04:27 PM

New Knee, you are right have several project going at one time. I know if my quilting teacher heard me say that she would kill me.(Smile)

I have never heard of the is method before. I'm telling you I learn more from this board than any quilt class I have ever taken. Thank you so much for sharing your tips!

One at a time, start to finish is just fine for me.

Thanks for the reminder ... I used to do this long ago and I have no idea why I stopped! I used the flower straight pin but I like your idea of the diaper pin and I just bought some for a pin cushion display I'm working on.
