I have several old quilt tops, 3 that I bought at an estate sale and 4 sets of squares that were made by me Mom, 2 Aunts and Granny. What type of material would be best to use on the botton. The ones that I bought at the estate sale do not need to be set together, they are a log cabin and I don't know what the other 2 are. The other 4 are a garden girl, 2 Sun bonne Sues, and a round one. I just need to know what to set these together with and what to use are the bottom lining Glenda in Texas

I would think regular cotton fabric or muslin should work well. Do you have any pictures you could post?

Assuming that the quilt tops and the squares were made with basic cotton, I would use cotton to finish them.

For the bottom - or the backing, you can even get some extra wide fabric so you don't have to piece the backing.

For the squares, I would get a color that goes with all of the squares and use it as sashing.

No I don't have any pictures, I had not thought of getting any. When one of my granddaughters comes I will get her to take some with my phone, Then I can put that chip into the computes. I will look for some muslin. Thanks

All of the quilts are made of cotton. In fact one reminds me of the feed sack prints that we used to get when Daddy bought feed for the cows. Momma would always go with him so she could pick out the sacks. Any one out there remember those dresses out of feed sacke? Thanks for the information

There are a lot of reproduction prints that would work wonderfully with the feedsack fabrics. You can still find those feedsacks for sale but they are usually quite pricey and it's easier to buy the repo prints. Just a thought.
