I finally found a good use for those nicked and/or dull cutters. I'm using mine to cut craft foam for VBS crafts. Didn't realise how easy it would be to use. Mostly long cuts, no small things. Just thought I'd pass this on, I'm probably the only one who didn't know.

Thanks for the tip. I will save mine from now on.

I found a rotary cutter blade sharpener. Bought it and got home and sharpened my rotary blades. Very nice and simple to do. You can get it at any fabric shop

Which brand of sharpener do you have?

sewmuchmore 07-26-2010 12:55 PM

Please tell us please, please, what is the name of the brand that you have.

Me too. I have one from Joann's and can't get the darn thing to sharpen anything!!

Has anyone tried that new sharpener Nancy's Notions has that you don't even need to take the blade out of the handle to sharpen? It looks neat but does it work?

Yes, please let us know. I bought a scissor sharpener which only made matters worse and I ended up buying new scissors. A blade sharpender that works would be a great, although even blades have a life span.

I bought a Fiskars scissors sharpener (on the advice of the fabric sales associate that I trust) and I tried it on my cheap $0.99 scissors -- actually several and it works wonderfully. I got my at Walmart and paid less than $8 for it. It is very easy to use.

sorry taking so long to get back with everyone. It is called "Twist 'n Sharp". It is a duel rotary blade sharpener by Colonial. I bought mine at Hancocks. You can go online also: www.colonialneedle.com I haven't gone online to check it out. hope this helps

I also do rubberstamping/card making and scrapbooking. I have a second, old rotary cutter and use my old blades for cutting my paper when they're no longer any good for fabric.

Thanks for the address--going to go look at it.

sewmuchmore 07-27-2010 01:30 PM

Thank you, I am going to check it out.

I have a Birdie electric rotary cutter. These are considered commercial cutters. There is an attachment of a sharpening stone that will sharpen the top edge when it is turned on.
This blade is hexagonal in shape. Do you all think this would work on a round blade?
I guess I will have to try it and find out.
I used to cut thru 12 layers of heavy poplin at a time with this cutter. The patterns were like heavy cardstock.

I'm checking out the blade sharpener. It would save me lots of money. Thanks.

Patti,
You have to buy the Birdie cutter to get the sharpener because the whole thing is electric.
It would be nice if we could get someone to manufacture just the electric sharpener. Along the same lines as electric scissor sharpener wirh an attachment for rotary blades would be the best in my opinion.

Billy, I think this is perfect product for you to come up with.
