Older Patterns that use fabric collections
 

My daughter found this pattern, http://cuttopieces.blogspot.com/2012...ilt-along.html , and I am going to make it for my grandson who loves Mario. The question I have is pertaining to the fabric collection, Michael Miller Couture Cotton. Having checked several different fabric sites, I either find that they don't have all the colors or that the color pictured isn't even close to the shade needed. I can't even find "Fog" which should be a light gray. And "Mango" which should be a basic bright orange shows on my monitor as a very pale yellow orange. Do they change the shades after a while? How long do they manufacture a collection? I thought it would be easier to use the same collection they did, but now am wondering if it might be easier to change to Kona.

Collection usually are twice a year. They only print so much of a collection and when it has been sold to all the LQS, it is all gone. If a collection does not sell, sometimes the companies will mark the price down on bolts or the excess is sold to jobbers who then sell it to the chain stores.

Monitors vary in color. Some need to be calibrated and there used to be a setting in the control panel. The scan of a pattern can also change the color. I use software since I use Photoshop.

If you have the pattern, the best thing to do is ignore the fabric line and go to a local LQS and match the colors and prints on the envelope with what the store has. Any good LQS should help.

The exception to ManiacQuilter's statement is that the solids, which is what you are looking for, are sometimes staples for a company, so they can be around much longer, in fact just about forever. But few stores stock the entire line. I would just look for the colors I want, and not worry about what line they're from.

As far as the Mango color: The color depends on your computer settings, and photographer's camera settings. (A quilt may have been taken with a flash or in sunlight.) My computer might show as a bright orange, and yours a pale yellow. That is why it is hard to buy fabric online if you are trying to match colors. Hope you find what you need.

I did this quilt along, made all the blocks but never got them together into a quilt. At the time, the Fat Quarter Shop put together a bundle of the colors needed for those of us who wished to purchase all the needed colors at once. I'm sure they still carry the colors. If you contact them you could ask if they would do this for you. Also, if you go to the Flickr group for the quilt along, you will find blocks and characters that weren't in the original quilt plan.

Hancocks of Paducah carries lots of the Michael Miller Courture solids.
I would go by the color name or number. Computer monitor colors are not always accurate. I really have trouble when ordering blue fabrics online.

cotton Couture is aMichael Miller basic blender/solid line so it is still available.
