I have this iron and am mixed about it. I had heard about this self-lifting feature being good for people with carpal tunnel syndrom and although I don't suffer, reasoned that it might be a good preventative thing. When I bought the iron, the saleslady told me that it gets hotter than most other irons, but I have not noticed any difference. The reason I say no, is that you cannot lay the iron on your material and take your hand off of it. Maybe I'm doing things wrong, but I often find myself placing my iron and waiting a few seconds before lifting it and re-placing it. Or, when pressing seams if I've made a pile of triangles or something, I open a few, place the iron on them and leave it while I open the next one. With the Oliso, your hand must be on the iron at all times. If you are ironing as opposed to pressing, this iron works great. I have two irons, and I find myself using the Oliso less often than the other.

I purchased one through Nancy's Notions for a little less than that price. I am not particularly happy with it. I tend to move to fast for the iron. When I want to press etc. it takes a hair to much time to retract the legs. I am particulary not pleased with the way the steam works or doesn't. It also leaks water. I had a Bernina iron for almost 15 years. The only reason I gave it up is because it will no longer hold water. I didn't get rid of it. It is lighter weight and the pop up feature saves having to set it up each time I stop ironing but I won't buy another one.

I still like my $10 no name iron. Have had it for years and hasn't failed me yet.

I have an Oliso Iron and it collects dust real well on the shelf in my sewing room! I went with a Shark and I love it!!

Ya'll are making me feel much better about not getting one of these irons. I made that mistake a few years ago with the cordless Maytag. I ended up coming to detest having to use it. My dh bought me a Rowenta for Christmas because I was too unsure about the Oliso, even though it looked pretty nifty. I just didn't want to buy a lemon again.

Nope.

I read that the Reliable brand iron is the best home use iron on the market right now. It is about $100. Reliable makes irons for the commercial/professional businesses.

Maybe it will get used a little more often.

I have had a cordless Maytag for a few years and love it. I love that I can use it to fuse batting in a quilt and I don't have to worry how far the plug is from the quilt.
I also have a Oliso that I purchased at Tuesday Mornings for $69.99 last year. I had wanted one but did not like the full price. I had rotator cuff surgery a few years ago and it is wonderful not having to lift and pull on the iron.
The only thing that I have a love/hate relationship with, is the auto shut down. It seems like I am always waiting for both of them to heat up again.
I also left water in the Oliso and the steam selection switch on and when I went to use it, white powder shot everywhere. After reading the book, I see that if you leave in water, then you must turn off steam switch.

There is a switch on the end of it that you can slide that will take it off of the pop up feature. If you accidentally leave it down and walk off, after 30 seconds it will pop up anyway. Built in safety thing.

I have one of these and I love it.

I just have a hard time spending that much on an iron.

I love my Oliso, but I only paid $99. Personally, I think I'm too cheap to pay $169.00. My opinion.

My favorite iron was a yard sale find at $2.00 !!!! It is an Oreck cordless one, the kind that comes free with the purchase of a sweeper!!! I love the fact that it heats up fast and is lightweight to use. I've seen other cordless irons that are heavy and bulky, which this one is not.

We have an Oliso iron at the quilt shop where I work and I have used it on several occasions. I have mixed feelings about it. It does take some getting used to. Right now I am happy with my Black and Decker and don't think ANY iron is worth $169!

I've had my yellow iron since Oct. 2010. I really like it. No leaks, lots of steam and heat. I love the itouch. Works for me.

After 7 (yes SEVEN) ............need I say more? All but the last returned. Just too time consuming to keep complaining.

I have the Oliso (you can turn the lift off) but it doesn't get as hot as I would like. I might try the Reliable BelloBoo spoke of. While the steam on the Oliso is great the temp is just so so. The Oliso is on sale I think for $115 on Amazon.

I purchased the first one that came out. It worked great for several years but no longer rises up when you put it down. It still irons great but it's heavy. I've gone back to a lightweight iron. It gets just as hot and I got an ironing board with one of those metal extensions on it that you put the iron it so it's not sitting on the ironing board and so can't get knocked off.

I brought one of those types of ironing boards too along with the cord holder. It made a world of difference. It seems as if finding the right iron is becoming like finding the right fit in jeans.

I looked long and hard for a good iron, and tried to like the Oliso. There were a lot of poor reviews on it. I finally went with a Reliable iron (the blue one) and couldn't be happier. It is pricey too, but worth the money.

I bought one ,not the yellow one and it didn't last long at all.

I would have to see it in person. i understand it's quite heavy. i almost ordered one but decided against it. it was on sale then too.

Does yours have a little switch on the end, that will disengage the feature?
