You are so lucky. Have fun with her.

Stogsdill 10-21-2011 08:50 AM

Oh how nice. I hope you find the info you need. I know there is a thread on here for those that have old machines. Perhaps someone there could point you in the right direction?

Up North 10-21-2011 08:53 AM

Post it on the vintage thread someone will help you.

Congrats on the treadle, I can't find one here.

thepolyparrot 10-21-2011 08:56 AM

Well, it looks like it was commissioned in 1920, but since
Singer has removed the beautifully functional lookup for serial numbers, I can't tell you what it is.

If you post pictures, someone will be able to tell you. :)

CarrieC 10-21-2011 09:14 AM

blueangel 10-21-2011 09:34 AM

Lucky you

Lucky Patsy's 10-21-2011 09:45 AM

Sweet! You have a model 66 commissioned on November 3, 1920. What decals does she have?

Charlee 10-21-2011 09:46 AM

I'm guessing that your machine has Redeye decals? :)

You have a Singer 66-1, commissioned on November 3, 1920.
Can't wait to see the pics, and KUDOS to that hubby of yours! :)

Grama Lehr 10-21-2011 09:56 AM

Great husband!!

virtualbernie 10-21-2011 09:57 AM

Lucky you! I have a 66-1 and a 15-89 and love them both. I use my treadles before any other machine! Hope you got attachments with it because 66-1's have back mounted feet and are a little hard to find.

khurtdvm 10-21-2011 12:53 PM

What a sweet DH!

Lucky u!!!

Sunflower Girl 10-21-2011 04:02 PM

What a wonderful husband . . . I think you should make him a thank you pie for that, at the least!!!!

chpinkham 10-22-2011 05:53 AM

Google "Singer Manufcturing" + that number. I inherited one with a G number also. Mine was made in Elizabeth, NJ, about 1910. There are charts with model numbers that tell you when they were issued. Wish I knew someone in central Texas who could restore both the machine and the cabinet.

Val in IN 10-22-2011 06:25 AM

Does she look like my avatar? Mine is a model 66 Redeye born in 1917 in Elizabeth, NJ. Hope you love yours as much as I do mine!! Happy treadling :-)

skrucker 10-22-2011 10:02 AM

I'm 54 yo now but remember fond memories of learning to sew on my great grandmothers old tredle machine. It purred like a kitten.

Congrats on your new treadle sewing machine.

If your sewing machine is a Singer brand, you can download a certificate and find out a little history on the year your sewing machine was born. You will need to provide them with the Serial number, it is worth checking out.

Judith 10-22-2011 04:55 PM

Go to the singer website, type in your number and a whole list will come up. You will be able to find out where and when your machine was made. Congratulations!

decky 10-22-2011 07:22 PM

You should join the vintage singer yahoo group. They have a wealth of information.

Mariposa 10-22-2011 07:27 PM

Hubby is a keeper! Have fun with your new baby!

kerrytaylor 10-22-2011 08:00 PM

My grandmother had a treadle and she would let me "sew" on it when I was a kid. Maybe the fact that I was a gangly, uncoordinated kid has something to do w the fact I could only make it sew in reverse. My feet just didn't have the rythm - wonder how I'd do today. Bet I know, I still have the same feet. :/

Little Sue 4.9 10-23-2011 12:54 PM

Have fun with Her. We bought one at an estate sale last month DH said it was a late birthday present. So far we've sanded the wood and stained her then used Tung oil on her ( what a shine with just one coat)We are doing the work ourselves as we are on a very tight budget. She is a beauty.

AngieS 10-23-2011 01:05 PM

That is AWESOME!! What a great thing for him to do. ;)

kiffie2413 10-23-2011 01:10 PM

I love my treadle, too...my great grandma actually had an electric motor added to it, too...when I say I love it, I mean I love the memories I have of "Ma" and "Nanny" sewing while I was visiting, and their patience with me...I also love how it looks... :-) ...I just recently figured out that it may be nice to actually use it... ... after seeing so many on here sew with theirs!! So, dh is in process of cleaning it all up for me, and I can't wait to give her a whirl!!... Congrats on yours!!
Kif

http://www.quiltingboard.com/t-155695-1.htm this is a video on cleaning and oiling a vintage machine. If you can find a manual it will have info pertinent to your particular machine. Muv is one of our board members and has 9 videos on Utube - see the top of the video for other videos she has done. She also has a link to her website under her posts on here. Down a ways on the above link is her post.

Quilter54 10-24-2011 02:14 PM

I printed out the list from Singer for the serial numbers starting with AB a while back if anyone would want it.

I love your location I use to tell people that I was from mars, bevause of my accent.

babyquiltlady 10-29-2011 06:54 PM

I have a treadle and I just researched my serial number online. I was able to locate the year it was made and information from Singer on the development of that brand for that make and model for that year.
