This one is a bit different...

i just put these blocks (and pieces) on my design wall. The color is actually a deep purple. I am not sure that it will show up that way. Purple just sometimes photographs a bit funny.

But this sure is different than what I have been making. Change is good, right? This one is called Study in Black and White by Julie Popa. (Yes, I know mine isn't black and white. I wasn't ready to go there yet...)

Do you sometimes make a quilt that is sort of way out there?

Looks neat!

Doggramma 02-25-2014 04:13 PM

Well I love it! The setting is very striking and graphic. Yes, I've been doing some different things myself lately. I just finished a baby quilt that was black, white and gray (baby mother's choice) then believe it or not, I have another request for a gray and white baby quilt. Gray is the new color. That's what keeps quilting interesting that's for sure! (I'll post a photo when I get the chance later)

Lori, I look forward to seeing pictures of either of these quilts. I had not thought of these colors for babies, but why not... I have seen several camouflage baby quilts, so why not grey, black, and white.

One different thing leads to something even more different until you find where you're supposed to be headed!

joyce888 02-25-2014 04:42 PM

So far I've only planned something way different than what I usually make. Yours is very pretty.

toverly 02-25-2014 06:33 PM

I like it, I haven't tried a really graphic quilt yet, I think you did a great job.

ManiacQuilter2 02-25-2014 06:43 PM

I LIKE it too. You have an ERROR on the first block to the left in row three. The top print section is not there. I have been wanting to do that pattern but haven't had the time to put it into Electric quilt.

I love it!! It is clean and modern looking and those are what I do/like best!! Love the purple too.

Thanks, I found that piece on the floor after I took the picture and posted it. :) I appreciate you catching the error though...there is always the chance I wouldn't have.

this way out there quilt is awesome! it will be so cool when you are done!

AliKat 02-25-2014 11:24 PM

I added another 2 color quilt to my collection. That way I can see what it looks like ... and it is very striking. Thanks.

Your quilt is striking and so modern looking. Purple is great. I have done a couple of these newer designs and I think they are fun. I love the traditional look but thee is room for this new look. I am glad to see the growth of fiber art in all of its forms-the 'tent' is big. Enjoy the experience. I am in the process of making a pink and gray baby quilt with lots of dots and no baby graphics.

I like this one- and love it in the purple & white. and it is always good to *step outside* your comfort zone box and try new things- that's what keeps a person moving forward- and helps you learn new things- expand your skills. it is always a good thing to be adventurous.

carolynjo 02-27-2014 06:21 AM

I like your design. Glad someone caught the small error for you.

nativetexan 02-27-2014 07:09 AM

Oh I've got a couple of tops that are way out there. They are still way out there, so not finished yet. very bright and perhaps ugly. I like yours though!! then I'm partial to purple!

That's the quilt I want to make, also in purple. You're right about the purple not showing up correctly, yours shows up as blue on my computer.

cpcarolyn 02-27-2014 07:30 AM

Very nice.

travelinggramma 02-27-2014 07:31 AM

I went and looked at the Popa's original quilt and I have to say I love your colors more!! Are you planning to border it in the white or purple?? This would be a great quilt for anyone!!

wildyard 02-27-2014 08:05 AM

It is a very different quilt, but quite striking and I really like the purple. Good job, and have fun with your adventures in quilting! :)

tessagin 02-27-2014 08:09 AM

Love the purple and with the white it's so crisp looking!!

FURBALLS 02-27-2014 10:15 AM

I yours also.

caspharm 02-27-2014 11:36 AM

It looks good and the purple works. It's strong enough to contrast well with the white.

I am going to border it in purple, though I don't have any more of the purple print, so it will be a plain purple. I thought about the white, and I like white, but that might be too much white. :)

Love your quilt! Every once in a while I push myself to try something totally different to, hopefully, advance my skills.

I think it is great you have challenged yourself! And I love the purple.

MargeD 02-27-2014 12:37 PM

Your quilt is beautiful and so is the fabric and quilt design. Last year I stretched outside the box when I made a black and white log cabin quilt for our family reunion, and it was gorgeous - I received so many, many different fabrics in black and white, which made it fun to make.

smoothride 02-27-2014 01:06 PM

I really like it.

GrammaNan 02-27-2014 01:14 PM

That's a a great, modern looking quilt. I love the color!

sewingsuz 02-27-2014 03:00 PM

I really like your quilt.

Zinda 02-27-2014 04:58 PM
