I am making 143 blue and white six inch blocks for a quilt/comforter for MY bed. I would like to use 1/4 inch sashing (to look like grouting). Most people grimace when I mention it. Is it that hard? Has anyone used it?

The blues range from light to almost black. Each block is different and I'm using all the skills I have learned from simple blocks to paper piecing, applique, etc.

I would appreciate any suggestions.

I think it sounds neat! You might try a couple of practice blocks to see how it works before starting on your quilt.

i would do at least 1/2 inch cut strips 1 inch it is very hard to keep every thing pressed well enough to do 1/4 inch but if you are up to it give it a try

Your blocks sounds beautiful would love to see pics! :) Do you mean a 1/4" sashing?

Do you want it to finish to 1/4 inch. That would work.

I use that alot in my work I would cut the strips wider than you need so you can trim down to 1/2" after you sew onto the first edge. Otherwise you will have a less than accurate sashing size. You will need to really watch your seams so they are straight or your sashing will have spots that are smaller and larger than 1/4" when you are done.

I would use a 1" strip. 1/4" will go on the first edge and then you will need 1/2" from that seam. So you will be cutting off 1/4" but it is worth it to get a more accurate look. It will save some frustration later.

Wow, may be tedious, but I bet result will be outstanding...just turn down the speed on your machine and have patience. (Rhonda's advice is, as usual, the best!

Go for it. 1/4 in. sashing will be neat.

you can do it. i would do strip sets and then cut them down to the size blocks you need.

be careful when pressing its very easy to distort 1/4 strips even when locked into a strip set.
