One hour to teach

Help! My church will be having a craft night in March, and I get to teach a sewing craft to a group of no more than 6 ladies. They may be of all different skill levels. I'll have one hour - what suggestions do you have? Thanks in advance.

I am assuming it would be a hand sewn item? Maybe a fabric YoYos made into a pin? Maybe machine sew sachet and have them turn them right side out, stuff and sew closed? If there are machines available, then the easy tissue holder is quick.

I vote for yo yos too.

There's the 10 minute table runner. That should be able to be shown and completed in 1 hour.

The fabric boxes are great fun for a make-and-take!

I vote for tissue holders. Although so simple they can be done more quickly than the time you have, the ladies will love picking out the fabrics and can make as many as there is time for. Visiting, introductions, and other incidentals take more time than a person thinks.

How about bottle cap in cushions? They're really cute, not expensive to make, can be hand sewn and you can decorate them in lots of ways so each one is unique. There's a lady on Etsy that makes really elaborate ones.

If they have machines, the pinwheel block where you sew around the edges and cut or even the D9P is impressive. Beginners can do them and be amazed.

I think a lot depends on what equipment will be available for your class. Will they each have a sewing machine, etc?

If they will have a sewing machine, I vote for the travel tissue cover. They can easily make 2 or 3 of them in that hour. One to keep and two to give as gifts. You could have all of the fabric cut ahead of time and have them pick out which colors they want to make. Get a package of the tissues so they can go home with the complete item. I work at 3 different schools during the week and made enough of these tissue holders for all of the ladies in each of my offices. They loved it.
