I just ordered fat quarters of Scooby Doo from http://www.craftconn.com

I was really happy with the feel of them. They have a great sale page.

I also order from Fabric Cafe, and Fabric Buffet. Check out their sale pages.

Also- check out the sale pages of the board. You can ask them questions about what they have and how it feels.

Only quilters would understand how fabric feels. My DH just laughs when I say I have to feel the fabric when we go into a quilt store. If I don't like how it feels than I do not get it.

If you see a fabric line you like, maybe you should first buy the charm pack or a mini charm pack to see the material "in person".

nativetexan 07-21-2013 06:26 AM

some places will send 1 inch squares out to try a fabric line.

You can get very nice fabrics and good prices from many places. Thousands of Bolts and Quilt Fabric Closeouts are a good place to start. The fabric is first quality, just not always the most recent releases. Both are quick to ship and have great customer service. Many places will have clearance sections also. For that, I like to check out the shops on Quiltshops.com

Connecting Threads is excellent!

I like thousands of bolt... they have top names. Use the search functions as they really do have thousands of bolts, and it can take a really long time if you are searching for something specific.

I like http://www.fabric.com . Be aware that they always have coupons you can apply to your order. Check their "coupon corner" on their website before placing your order and/or Google "fabric.com coupon code". They have free shipping over $35 too.

I have ordered from these sites and have been pleased. E-quilter, fabric.com, connecting threads, MSQCo. and bugfabric.com.

I have ordered from Thousands of Bolts more than once and always been happy with the order.

I try to buy only fabric lines I have seen in person because I have bought fabric a few times that the color looked way different in person than on the computer and like you I don't have dollars to waste so I am very picky about what fabric I buy online. Or if I am buying for a project I try to stay within the same line so I know it matches

barking-rabbit 07-21-2013 08:03 PM

I just bought some from thousands of bolts. about $3.95 and $4.95 a yard but there is shipping too. They had a really good selection and a way to look at all the fabrics in one line.

There are plenty of bargains online, and a bunch of places that sell second-rate fabrics too.

You can often find really good fabrics at closeout prices. You won't be getting the latest fabrics, and you won't be getting timeless fabrics that never go out of style, and you won't have the best selection, but it will be good quality.

I'd be wary of any place selling fabric for 1 or 2 dollars a yard though, it'll probably be worth about what you pay for it.

Many places will send you small samples of fabric, so you can make sure you're getting the right color and you like the fabric before you commit to a larger purchase. You probably won't be able to get samples of sale fabrics or closeout fabrics from many places though.

Speaking as an online shop owner, I'd rather spend the money to send out a sample than I would have a buyer send a purchase back because it's the wrong color, or they didn't like it for some other reason.

I have had excellent experience with Connecting Threads

Becky Crafts 07-23-2013 04:12 AM

I too am on a fixed budget & I've been getting great deals online at several places. Some have already been listed. I also use cottonpatchfabrics.com. They're very helpful & have never let me down! Something I do to get familiar with all the online shops is join the fab shop hop and find bunnies at a list of sites each month. Sometimes I win gift certificates & recently was notified of being a 2nd prize winner of a $25.00 package. It all helps to build up my fabric stash or sometimes works in progress. You'll see bunnies on some sites & it'll tell you how to register.

carol45 07-23-2013 04:52 AM

With fabric.com you can send it back free if you don't like it. I've already done it a number of times. There's no risk, and if you order over $35 shipping is free, so it doesn't cost you a cent to try out fabrics you are interested in.

IBQUILTIN 07-23-2013 07:18 AM

I purchased a lot of fabric online, and have never been disappointed with the quality. My favorite site is 1000's of bolts and only one nut. Good luck to you and have a good time quilting

shasta5718 07-23-2013 07:45 AM

I have had good luck with Marshalls Dry Goods and craftconn.com.

misseva 07-23-2013 08:17 AM

I've bought from almost every site mentioned previously. Never a problem. Connecting Threads and Thousands of Bolts & One Nut are my two favorites. Keepsake Quilting's Block of the Month kits are WAY generous with material - so much so that I made a scrap quilt out of the leftovers.

junipergal 07-23-2013 09:25 AM

I just got 8 different fabrics from Craft Connection, they are nice feeling and except for the red/orange one were extremely close to the color represented on the web page. The red one didn't show up as vivid as it is.

sweetlummi 07-23-2013 12:27 PM

that you all for the help. There was 3 in all your post I was thinking of . I do order from Connection . I have only been quilt about 2 or 3 years now still not ready to pay even $8 for some I may love it but when the time I get to the end it not going to look that lovely any more lol. BUT thank you all I have a lot of fabric to look at now.

teddysmom 07-23-2013 12:55 PM

Keepsake Quilting and Connecting Threads are ones I've ordered from and have not had any problems. My sister has also ordered from Hancock's in Paducah, KY with good results.

suzanprincess 07-24-2013 01:57 AM

I just received my order of about 50 yards from The Quilting Hen; they're having a $3/yard sale, all name brand stuff. Free shipping with $68 order, and they give excellent service. I've ordered several times. Other favorites are Connecting Threads and Hancock's of Paducah, and sometimes E-Quilter.

Pat75 07-24-2013 07:55 AM

I buy all my fabrics from Hancocks of Paducah I buy only their web specials and they are offered at different prices.I have in more than 10 years never received any thing that was not top quality and they cut the fabric very generously I recently bought backing fabric 9 yards for 3.99 a yard a name brand
