Do you ever order, say, 4.5 yards of fabric with a layout in mind, and you order complementary fabrics for borders, etc. They run short, so you only get 1 yard of the main fabric. Next time, I indicated 'Cancel fabric if full amount not in stock'. The 4.5 yards were canceled but I get all the border fabrics, which don't go with anything I have. Aargh!

I always type into the instruction area......If full amounts are not available, contact me before filling order. It works!

Thanks! I will have to do that. I guess I didn't think they actually read those comments.

They do! I order online a lot and sometimes it is for stash and sometimes for something specific. I like knowing that I have this option when I order.

A good online quilt shop should always:

a) contact you first before making ANY change to an order.

b) read all comments included on every order.

That's just basic decent customer service. If your online shop doesn't do that, run away!

If one of the fabrics is the focus fabric, or I'm ordering a lot of small cuts just to justify the one bigger piece of fabric, I always write to cancel the ENTIRE order if that focus fabric isn't fully in stock.

Many online shops have a comment box that tells you to check what you want done if they can't fill your entire order. It defaults to sending just what they have if you don't indicate a preference. So number 1 above doesn't apply in those cases. Just read everything when you check out and you won't have a problem. Sometimes I have them cancel the whole order if it is all for one project.
