I've got a few applique patterns that just cry out for wool. Can you recommend any online shops that sell wool? Preferably in small bundles or scrap sizes - I need a variety and would like to not buy large pieces as it is pricey and I don't really need a lot of any one color.

I get mine at thrift shops, flea markets and yard sales. Be on the look out for old blankets, men's and women's firmly woven coats, jackets, trousers and skirts. Check for fiber content. I take apart, remove fasteners and linings and wash gently in hot water, damp dry and lay the pieces flat to finish drying. I have three bundles of ivory/natural from wool/cashmere coats that I am going to dye.
A lot of wool can be gotten from a ladies' coat purchased for 25 cents and it would probably been landfill otherwise. |
I highly recommend The Dorr Mill Store. It's local to me, but they sell online as well and have bundles of fat quarters (a wool FQ is 18x30, btw).

These are nice sites for new wool.
